But rec management is my major so I find myself with a lot more wilderness survival stuff than your average student but that’s for wilderness, not urban survival. Still, it’s good to have

Also @mathgrant go for it! Coyotes are awesome! The coyote I drew is actually a character in a book I’m writing that delves a lot into mythology, especially Native American mythology and American urban legends. The coyote is a trickster spirit who messes with everyone

There’s definitely a lot of options out there! Foxes are my favorite animals and I have a lot of fox characters, but this is my first coyote character and he’s one of my favorites

I know that PlayOnMac uses Wine and I can’t figure out how to use it on its own but I’ll try and figure it out
I actually downgraded my computer back to Mojave after one of my family members updated it. I used it with PlayOnMac smoothly until around 6 months ago so I know Catalina isn’t the issue

I’ve found that when I have writer’s block it’s good to just write little summaries or things that help me get my brain moving
Anyway, here are two of them that I did for the story I’m currently working on

Basically this town is being attacked by dragons so this boy named Collin decides to use magic to help the town but the spell has unintended consequences so he leaves to try and find a magician to remove it and while he’s gone, this group of people slowly try to convince the townspeople to stop shooting cannons at the dragons lying that it isn’t effective so that the town will be dependent on them and they slowly take it over. They also fake Collin’s death (he left without telling anyone and has no idea everyone thinks he’s dead) and use it to push their agenda. This is all viewed through Collin’s cousin’s Alice’s eyes who notices weird stuff going on and tries to stop it

There’s more to it than that but that’s kinda of the general situation

The sad thing is, I thought it was going to be a short story!

I’ve never really written much of any story either even though I had been interested in doing so for years. What changed was that I joined a writing group and we read excerpts of writing from each person and then gave critique and constructive criticism. That group of people became my closest friends and it motivates me to write because if I don’t then I don’t have anything to share. Maybe something similar could help you

Depending on what you’re looking for in your story, you could create new creatures altogether. For instance, in one of my stories people use they creatures called “terrechevals” which are basically golems made out of dirt and mud shaped like horses

But that’s only one example, and you could create other made up creatures that fit your needs

If you don’t want to make up anything like that you could also consider deer, perytons (winged deer), large boars, or other large hooved animals (doesn’t have to be limited to them, but it might be a good place to start)

You could also think of the habitats that your races are in, for instance a gazelle or something might work well for wide open plains while some sort of giant mountain goat could work well for a rocky and mountainous area

The possibilities are endless and it’s basically what you feel would work the best

Maybe do some research on armored mounts in history and see how you can translate it over

I’ve already posted this here, but this is probably my favorite summation (it’s a satirical filter but still fairly accurate)
And yeah, I’d say I’m pretty passionate about it. I had the idea back in August and have been writing it consistently since November and haven’t abandoned it for another story yet! (which usually tends to happen with me)

Not exactly sure, it takes place in a fantasy world with the time period somewhere between 1890 and 1900 with aspects of American and European culture

I’ve read countless books in time periods or places I wasn’t all that interested in before reading that got me interested in them because I enjoyed the story so much.

Don’t worry too much about whether or not people will like the setting. Focus on the characters. The characters really bring any story through, no matter the setting

Focus on the characters. If you can write them really well, readers will forgive you

For instance, I TOTALLY disagree with the theory of time travel presented in Back To The Future, but it’s one of my favorite movies because the characters and the story are *just so good*

That’s an altogether different issue. How you present an idea VS what the idea actually is can be two very different things
