Only thing I can think of is the feed ramps

But since you mentioned magazines, do you have any cheapos for that rifle?
If you don't mind sacrificing a mag for the sake of experimentation, you could try shaving down the front of one a little bit
Theoretically that should push the round up less

Not sure how precise your equipment is, but if I was doing it and had a bridgeport, I'd do a .015 plunge and check it each time

If you look at the front of it, it's almost squared off in relation to the feed lips
On true AK mags, there is a cutout there so they feed straight out of it

@A Person The problem with threading a barrel isn't just money. It requires a setup that has virtually perfect concentricity because if the muzzle attachment isn't on perfectly concentric with the barrel, your accuracy goes to shit
Plus muzzle brakes are really noisy to anyone behind the muzzle
Also not necessary for many firearms on the market

You can build one with parts already on the market that'll shoot plenty accurate

Long tubes, solid lifter cam, 650 cfm holley on a single plane aluminum intake

The block was out of a passenger car. Was originally a 250 horsepower low compression 350 with a 2-barrel

Yes, that's my engine in the picture. Somebody put some money in those heads. It's got screw in rocker studs and guide plates in there, also has 202 stampings on the heads so I suspect it's been machined for bigger valves
Has an old Hays breakerless ignition system in it that's been discontinued since 98
Runs on 91, has some cam lope to her

The LS is awesome too, but I just prefer the raw mechanical simplicity of a carbureted engine with a mechanical fuel pump and a distributor
No computer, no smog
Everything you need to run the engine and nothing extra
