On this Facebook post of yesterday. Yes it seems awkward. But honestly, does it really even matter? Parliament has already demonstrated on the 27th February this year that their is no political opposition capable of preventing whatever decision the ANC will take on this issue.

@spursfan82 I believe that he has expressed the AfriForum position allot better on previous occasions. What is really interesting from the AfriForum presentation was not what Erns said, or how he said it. It was the way in which he was attacked without any protection in a forum supposedly designed to allow all view points to be heard without fear or favor. If nothing else, AfriForum succeeded in exposing the very real threat for any one who opposes EWC.

I think Mr. Lekota is as strong as they come. He remains true to himself and committed to the path that was chosen during 1994 and he is doing so in the face of tremendous opposition. But I fear it matters very little. Politics is a numbers game and I am not convinced that the likes of Cope and the DA will be able to pose any obstacle to the direction the ANC has chosen for this country.

@spursfan82 I don't really believe the DA has moved dramatically from their political trajectory. I have always believed them to be progressively more liberal every passing year. I think that many people mistakenly believe the DA being a party interested in, if not protecting, at least supporting the interest of the white population. But the DA is not a white party by any stretch of imagination. I would classify the DA as a democratic socialists party. They certainly support the notion of capitalism and a free market system to a much greater extent than does the other major "Marxist" parties, but, as the Facebook post demonstrates, market share will dictate that they must increasing support socialist policies to ensure growth and relevance.

@spursfan82 The policies of cope and the DA sounds very similar. But you are likely to find statements which appears being at odds in the same policy documents of both parties. On the one hand you will find both parties professing that they stand for "non-racial, non-sexist democratic governance". However, both parties expressly support policies aimed at addressing inequality and diversifying the economy. In other words policies aimed to prejudice and discriminate on racial and sexual grounds.

Cope won 0.67% of the votes during the 2014 elections. The DA 22.23%. together they have less than 23%.

More than the 6.35% but I doubt that they will really increase significantly. The ANC will probably win some of the support back that it lost the last few rounds of elections. All and all I think the balance of power will remain spread out along the same lines as it presently is.

@Sheamus and @spursfan82 have you guys considered the strategy of the ANC on EWC and the various responses and how it plays into their hands. I find it a very interesting chess match and one, I am sad to say, I believe the ANC is presently winning. However, I believe their victory will be short lived and will come at a much greater cost than the ANC anticipates.

No... they are winning because they are playing it smarter than most. So this take on it. They knew they had enough votes to pass EWC in Feb but chose not to do so at that time. They embarked on the farce of public participation and they did so to apiece their critics. They silenced Malema who was very vocal and increasingly calling for violence against white people until Australia came out in support of a visa for white SA farmers on humanitarian grounds. Malema has toned his warlord like tone down significantly since than even suggesting that white people is welcome here. And than something interesting happened. The ANC started to punt the idea that the constitution in its present format already allows for EWC. Even more interesting was the announcement by the ANC that they "have listened to the people" and are going to roll out EWC to test the constitution as it stands, which everyone criticized as premature. However, I think it was genius. Ever since that announcement an increasing number of academics and business leaders has come out in support of the idea that the constitution presently allows for EWC and that no change is required or that a cosmetic amendment will be sufficient. That is exactly what I believe the ANC wanted...

Most of the speakers apposing EWC during the parliamentary inquiry supported the idea that the constitution presently allows for EWC and this is why I think they did so. The constitution as it stands require that a court must decide on if compensation is required given a very specific case. The Expropriation act will be amended to bring it in line with the constitution in this regard with a provision that eviction shall be effected upon delivery of the expropriation notice. That way the land will immediately be taken. Any local or international opposition will be stifled because the government will argue, correctly, that the evicted person has the right to claim compensation through a court process which we all know will be protracted and only settled years after eviction. The international community will have no choice from a political point of view other than to allow it to play out in the courts.

So, the ANC get to take the land without having to pay a sent for it while the amounts is argue through a lengthy legal court battle. But I believe heir victory will be short lived because this is no victory for the EFF

I stand by my choice of words. I concede that cunning is appropriate also... but the strategy has elements of foresight and intelligence to it. Is suspect that Hitler might have been described by some as genius from time to time although i also believe it an insult to suggest those that describe him as such as admiring of the man in any shape or form. context is everything
