i
huh
Gender itself doesn't exist as it is a social construct. Some cultures have 2 genders while others have 5. Gender is an identity. One can choose to express whemselves with any gender they choose
Exactly. It's a concept. Therefore it is and is not
Some Indigenous cultures have the two-spirit who have both masculine and feminine qualities
Some west African cultures (pre-colonization) had more in-between genders
Yes. Gender is an identity; a concept. It is how you identify with yourself
If you feel more on the feminine side of a 2- gendered society, most people would assume you identify as female
Once again, this is completely subjective to:
1. Where you feel on the gender spectrum
2. What your society accepts as genders
I personally feel as if western society needs to get rid of this 2-gender system because of all the harm it has caused trans and non-binary people
Judicual falls under governmental because the Supreme Court (judicial branch) oversees all major federal cases
So yes... it's systemic <3
Because the ideas implemented into the African communities in the US are ones that prioritize harm over all else as a form of villainization
Not exactly. Evidence of gender sprouting in Europe can date back to pre-classical times when gender dysphoria was not recognized
Depends on your culture
Nope
Those are sexes
And even at that it's still incorrect
You have X, XX, XY, XXY, XYXY, XXXX, XXXY, XXXXY ,XXXXX.
Nope
Saying there are only 2 genders is inherently ethnocentric. Western society tries to engrave the idea into our minds that there are only 2 genders. If you start saying there are only 2, you're demeaning other cultures that differ from your own. There are people who are drastically masculine, feminine, somewhere in the middle, or even not on the spectrum at all.
That statement just proved to me why you can't accept the facts
Not really
You also have intersex
Who share both traditional male and female biological characteristics
Not really
They are about as common as having red hair
According to the world health organization*
There are also people with more x chromosomes
The only way to truly tell what your sex is is to get it checked
Chromosome examination
Many people have XXY and dont even know their entire lives
That would mean 117,000-351,000 people on the planet
Still a lot
Just saying that gender is a social construct and not just a set "guy or girl" type thing
That is exacrly the point. They didn't care bc it didn't affect them. Gender only became popular in the early modern era
Not saying it does. Im saying gender is a spectrum
Thats not what this is about tho-
I am talking about the mental aspect of it
Gender is an identity
A concept
Only in english
Most indo-european languages don't have a difference
Because of culture
But I won't explain that unless you ask
Not invalidating gender. Just saying that gender did exist in European society; it just was not relevant
I never said gender was not real
Just that it was invented as a form of identity
Thats the problem
They said "this is how it is supposed to be"
And try to impress this idea on every culture they colonized
Generally
Not on a specific basis*
They are an idea almost everywhere
Im saying only Europe pushed it on other people
It's not supposed to be a rebuttal. Im agreeing with you to a certain extent
Exactly. Thats my point. Some west African cultures had 5 genders until Europe said "follow our rules" (colonization)
?
Im just saying gender differs across culture. Thats literally all
It is a spectrum. There aren't just 2. Maybe in Western culture but not in all of them. Just saying to be open to the fact that not all cultures follow the 2 gender system and thats okay
I agree
Ofc they had genders roles
Not the same ones
But roles nonetheless
OH
I said
Some don't
Not a lot
Sudanese cultures
They also had a 2 gender system
And Arabs in the 5th century bc
You're totally right
Invalidation to you but validation to another
It is about the person who is identifying themselves
Exactly
I know that
Can you site your sources rq?
I'll do the same
I wrote an article on this a few months back. Hopefully your sources can give me more insight :)
Never said you were wrong about the dysphoria part
Gender not sex
Separate ideas
Sex is biological
Science
Gender is sociocultural
Not saying you're wrong
Just saying we have different outlooks on a topic with no true right answer
The human brain and body are among the most complex structures of the known universe
To a certain extent. Sex is more chromosome and genetically based. Gender can vary across cultures
But it really depends
Yes the sex you're right
But chromosomes are raerly checked
You could be XXY and never know
It is an international foundation. It's fine to be skeptical. I don't trust the government lmao
I check more sources than just Oxford dictionary
But I still will :)
"especially when considered with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones"
Google like you said
