no sure there is intersex

2021-01-05 00:34:37 UTC

That is exacrly the point. They didn't care bc it didn't affect them. Gender only became popular in the early modern era

2021-01-05 00:35:02 UTC

Not saying it does. Im saying gender is a spectrum

2021-01-05 00:35:14 UTC

why would you give trans people hormones if biological realities don't alter behaviour and personality.

2021-01-05 00:35:29 UTC

it's because they do

2021-01-05 00:35:38 UTC

Thats not what this is about tho-

2021-01-05 00:35:43 UTC

I'm not saying biology is everything because it certainly isn't

2021-01-05 00:35:48 UTC

I am talking about the mental aspect of it

2021-01-05 00:35:55 UTC

Gender is an identity

2021-01-05 00:35:57 UTC

A concept

2021-01-05 00:36:22 UTC

but you can't reduce gender to a social construct is jus

2021-01-05 00:36:34 UTC

the terms gender and sex were interchangable for the longest time

2021-01-05 00:36:44 UTC

Only in english

2021-01-05 00:36:52 UTC

in many jurisdictions they're interchangeable

2021-01-05 00:36:54 UTC

Most indo-european languages don't have a difference

2021-01-05 00:37:00 UTC

Because of culture

2021-01-05 00:37:08 UTC

But I won't explain that unless you ask

2021-01-05 00:37:52 UTC

europeans did not see gender as a social construct no

2021-01-05 00:37:56 UTC

Not invalidating gender. Just saying that gender did exist in European society; it just was not relevant

2021-01-05 00:38:04 UTC

I never said gender was not real

2021-01-05 00:38:12 UTC

Just that it was invented as a form of identity

2021-01-05 00:38:18 UTC

Thats the problem

2021-01-05 00:38:27 UTC

because it isn't

2021-01-05 00:38:31 UTC

They said "this is how it is supposed to be"

2021-01-05 00:38:43 UTC

And try to impress this idea on every culture they colonized

2021-01-05 00:38:48 UTC

Generally

2021-01-05 00:38:54 UTC

Not on a specific basis*

2021-01-05 00:39:23 UTC

Gender roles isn't a european idea lmao

2021-01-05 00:39:33 UTC

They are an idea almost everywhere

2021-01-05 00:39:46 UTC

Im saying only Europe pushed it on other people

2021-01-05 00:40:09 UTC

wdym push it on other people, they already had gender roles themselves before europeans came

2021-01-05 00:40:15 UTC

gender is not an identity is a biological scientific thing

2021-01-05 00:40:17 UTC

also it is improper to say all europeans did

2021-01-05 00:40:26 UTC

only some european nations did any of that

2021-01-05 00:40:35 UTC

It's not supposed to be a rebuttal. Im agreeing with you to a certain extent

2021-01-05 00:40:54 UTC

Exactly. Thats my point. Some west African cultures had 5 genders until Europe said "follow our rules" (colonization)

2021-01-05 00:41:02 UTC

?

2021-01-05 00:41:43 UTC

Im just saying gender differs across culture. Thats literally all

2021-01-05 00:42:04 UTC

no what I meant was that the idea that all the countries colonized by european countries had other gender roles is just false

2021-01-05 00:42:16 UTC

you may find some very specific examples

2021-01-05 00:42:22 UTC

It is a spectrum. There aren't just 2. Maybe in Western culture but not in all of them. Just saying to be open to the fact that not all cultures follow the 2 gender system and thats okay
