Sociopaths have emotions
They do too
But really what is 'human' is more about definition than anything else. There's no clear line where one animal becomes another
But how different do the genetics have to be?
Humans have variability in all of those cases
That's the same thing worded differently
how so?
But then vegetables aren't human(or aren't deserving of rights if that's what you mean)
Yeah, but similarity is just a measurement of difference where you look for smaller amounts of difference
Humans are quite similar to many animals
true
but either way you put it there's no clear line in how similar you have to be to still be considered a human
but evolution is often a very slow change, and what's seen as anatomically modern human today may vary from those 300 years from now
We didn't evolve from monkeys
we share a genetic ancestor with them
That's part of why I think it's not a good idea to create concrete definitions of what is human and what is not. Dehumanization is a very dangerous thing.
Also I think it's just not really possible to do with the way biology works
Depends on whether you're defining humanity by body/mind/spirit
Personally I'd say no, but if they are of human intelligence then I'd say they deserve to be treated as humans
Well yeah I'd be willing to say something isn't a human, but to make an exact definition of 'this is a human anything that differs is not human' is where I think it gets fuzzy and dangerous
I think there's a difference in what is biologically human, and something 'having humanity'
but I wouldn't want to give exact definitions on either since people will use those labels to say 'this person lacks it' to justify doing awful things to them
I would think because of the caricature of a Hasidic Jew manipulating everything
Why are 40+ channels posting it?
Look at the way he's dressed
the character 1 minute into the video
Because it goes against their terms of service
Because they have an automated system that can catch when someone is spamming the site with the same video
Because as you've said someone is spamming the site with it 40+ times
Neat. I'd love to visit just to look at the architecture if for nothing else
A moderate amount of poisons CAN be good for you. Medicines are essentially poisons. A poison is just something that interacts with the body to throw it out of balance so to speak. But when the body is already out of balance that poison can swing things back towards the middle
But yeah I'm skeptical of fluoride being a good thing to add to the water just for the purpose of dental hygiene
There's what, like 5 popes per square mile of vatican city?
I only smoke crack recreationally.
And to help me get started with my day
And to help me get to sleep
And for social purposes
And for forgetting the side effects that are hurting me more in the long term

Thank god for the self checkouts. I don't want the gamestop experience when I'm just trying to get some toothpaste
oh no
What, are they making some weasel wordy statement like 'yeah the value of it went up, but people's trust in its future value has gone down' or are they just flat out lying?
It's annoying that 'conservative' has right wing connotations
There are a lot of laws with left wing values that have been around for a while and should be conserved
Depends on who you ask
But when most people hear 'conservative' they think right wing christianity
Agreed
But if you dare say that in most places someone will pretend you're talking about the Libertarian party rather than libertarian values
I got called a 'radical individualist' by a family member recently for saying that splitting everyone up by race to determine privilege is a poor way to do things because it's going to create division and does a poor job at accurately predicting an idividual's experiences
'the coastal strategy'
God, I hate how people on both sides conflate Social Democracy and Democratic Socialism, with people are pro-socialism say "oh, you want health care? That means you want Socialism!" and people who are against welfare saying "We can't institute government assistance programs because that's Socialism and Socialism is evil".
really gets my goat
Life, is an unalienable right according to the Declaration of Independence, and health has overlap with that.
Not all health does; like being overweight doesn't mean my right to life gives me the right to a gym, but in certain cases their are solid libertarian arguments for healthcare
And I certainly don't know the right way to implement such systems, and wouldn't want a poorly thought out system to be implemented just in the pursuit of progress
No one said there was one.
Don't pretend people are saying what they're not.
Because literally no one said anything about forcing someone to do work. I meant it being paid for through taxes.
Libertarian doesn't mean anarchy. Thomas Paine is frequently sited as a libertarian, and he was in favor of UBI.
Nothing socialist about that if you ask me.
Automatons are really impressive. I like the one of the writing boy which can be programmed to write whatever you want it to
Also the one of the Japanese archer because it actually shoots a miniature arrow which is hilarious to me
If I had to guess the Turk must have inputs to move its hand for each square on the chess board, and so then someone just needs to control it
We've been genetically modifying our food for as long as we've been growing it. Doing it through artificial selection vs more modern means isn't what matters
It's the end result that does
There's nothing really to argue against there.
Lots of stuff is unnatural. Doesn't mean it's bad.
Now, the legal practices behind GMOs are something to complain about
What do you mean, like as an insult, or some self-diagnosing "I have trouble with social situations so I'm going to say I have aspergers"?
There's also the possibility of weaponizing GMO bacteria/parasites
lol
What was he saying it's ableist or stigmatizing the neuro-diverse or something?
Did you tell him that he must have aspergers?
I'm jokin' friend. Didn't mean any offense.
Nah, it's cool. It's really hard to tell sometimes on the internet.
I don't think you should assume you're probably wrong in most cases haha
Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses
And come on, it's not like you're a speedrunner or anything
Thankfully pride month has ended so I don't need to pretend I care about anyone but straight people anymore /s
OK but for real a part of me hopes that the brown stripes in the pride flag continue to gain traction so that we can have rainbows back as a non-political design option
I did in highschool, but now that it's so widely accepted I don't feel the need to talk about it anymore
Yes. Intersectionality in action. Because just talking about sexuality without considering race isn't checking your privilege
Aren't there still some people who have to live in an iron lung because of polio?
There are a actually facilities that archive seeds of all kind in preparation for emergencies.
Like currently?
Yeah, biodiversity is important here for sure.
We don't want to replace every crop with one super-rice
You see people talking about cocoa possibly going extinct... There's probably a lot of money for whoever can figure out a way to make that grow in new environments
All I'll say is this: Vaccines are one of the most important inventions in human history for saving human life. But I don't like the idea of someone forcing me to put something in my body. However vaccines rely on herd-immunity, and by not taking them you are endangering everyone else. Also corporations can often be untrustworthy.
Because they're NOT necessarily safe. You're changing the organism's DNA to make it a new one. So that means you COULD make something poisonous, but that doesn't mean changing corn to have bigger kernels is going to necessarily be unsafe if that's all that is changed.
DNA is a highly complex set of code, and sometimes things are linked in ways we previously didn't understand. That means we should be careful moving forward and not put all our eggs in one basket. It doesn't mean avoiding all change.
Ok, but really on some level he was right. But the chemicals are actually turning frogs trans.
Well that's sort of the point
It's a difficult situation because then there's very little incentive for them to create them.
I think that first of all the patents should be very limited in length, and secondly there should be protections for those whose crops naturally gain crossover with the GMO
Only in their origin
The end result CAN be the same
We no longer get polio vaccines
Because we wiped it out in the US
That's the result of widespread vaccination
