@Antiboom

TL;DR a whole lot of time tuning and making mistakes as you optimize your ride.

2019-04-17 02:57:12 UTC [Sparta #general]

If it's environmentalism then the best tech is already in use. It's not solar or nuclear though it's fracking.....

2019-04-17 03:01:44 UTC [Sparta #general]

America has met the Kyoto targets and is on track to meet Paris even though we never signedon to either.

2019-04-17 03:08:16 UTC [Sparta #general]

@Antiboom

OK this is a TL;Dr but still pretty long. We frack for oil mostly lite sweet crude. The process of hydrofracking off-gasses a lot of NatGas as a a *side effect*. The frackers don't have any real use for it and it's a pain to deal with because it's a gas and hard to store. The net outcome is that the cost of NatGas in the US is basically the transportation cost. Due to fracking we have the cheapest NatGas on the planet.

NatGas burns a lot cleaner than other fossil fuels and due to the low cost we have been able to afford new methods like dual-cycle reactors that make it even cleaner and more efficient (in petrochemical pollution is a synonym for waste and loss). This is why our reduction in carbon emissions makes us compliant to treaties we never signed.

2019-04-17 03:09:21 UTC [Sparta #general]

@Achlys

That's physically impossible. For a frack to work it has to pressurize the system a mile under the water table. Seepage would prevent the frack from functioning.

2019-04-17 03:12:28 UTC [Sparta #general]

No it requires pressure. To work you have to fracture the rock and release the hydrocarbons. A typical frack runs about 9000PSI.

2019-04-17 03:13:44 UTC [Sparta #general]

To put that to scale high pressure steam is 75PSI and a commercial sandblaster is rated at 150PSI.

2019-04-17 03:41:41 UTC [Sparta #general]

I mean we don't *need* the Saudis to begin with. We're a net exporter and that's just oil. When you look at distillates and naptha products in the crack chain it's not even funny.

2019-04-17 03:44:44 UTC [Sparta #general]

Yeah my little sister was trying to get me to moveout there. She's a pipefitter and I did a lot of downstream operations.

2019-04-17 03:48:43 UTC [Sparta #general]

More interested in Texas tbh fam. Really CO is only interesting because I could hang out with my sis.

2019-04-17 16:34:27 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Kinda why we don't much like you. The clearest sign that an American politician is an idiot is the phrase, "if we could be more like Europe......."

2019-04-17 16:36:00 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

I mean like half our population got here because someone in their family decided Europe was fucked and came here...

2019-04-17 16:37:11 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

I mean I'm here because great grandpaw figured Kiaser was about to make a huge mess of things.

2019-04-18 03:09:11 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

>investors don't produce anything....

Investors make production possible. These are rough numbers for an expansion at a midsize (total value around 1/2B) industrial firm I was involved with. This is heavy industry so actual labor producing a physical product. Plant buildout was priced at around 75M. Operations require a floating budget of an intake of 6 figures in feed material *every day*. Facilities cost and personnel and facility in the upper 5 figures a day. *Investment* s how you organize all those resources so that labor can actually result in production. Deciding that the project is not only valuable but profitable (ie valuable enough to other people to warrant it) is how you makee the labor and production happen.

2019-04-18 16:15:30 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Y'all should succeed and become the 51st state. We'll call you Texas2.

2019-04-18 16:32:51 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Imagining a Murica with twice as much Texas.......

2019-04-18 16:39:27 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Puts you on the dollar and you get a fuckton of port access.

2019-04-18 16:40:48 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Also the tar sands provide heavier products while Bakken is making lite sweet.

2019-04-18 16:45:24 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

A little credit to the Frogs. Quebec's bitching is what makes secession legal.

2019-04-18 18:50:38 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Nah I'm a libertarian who did read Misses, Freidman, and Sowell.....

2019-04-19 11:42:13 UTC [Sparta #dank-memes]

@Amir You can have my pittie when you drag her from my cold dead hands.

2019-04-21 13:05:42 UTC [Sparta #dank-memes]

@Masterโ™’le

Is PewDiePie Muslim?????

2019-04-22 12:44:34 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Like Tim said carpets curtains etc. They were doing work so there was a lot of lighter fuels. There's a reason we have fire codes for buildings made mostly of metal and concrete. This doesn't rule out arson. Just silly conspiracy theories.

2019-04-23 16:35:40 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Of course they are. The census is used to determine electoral votes. CA has over 2M illegals. Even if they don't vote they increase the influence of CA in federal elections.

2019-04-23 16:41:17 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Fun fact black Americans used to vote overwhelmingly Republican.

2019-04-23 16:56:04 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

@Tero

Basically everything to the left of your graph. I'd also note that most of the Democrats *in* your graph were significantly to the right of the current GOP.

2019-04-23 17:43:04 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

@Tero

Oh hell yeah you don't really need to go that far back. Like JFK drastically reduced taxes, halted commies so much he risked a nuclear exchange, and wanted to introduce a competing silver currency. I don't know anyone in modern politics that would take such a hard line on those issues.

2019-04-23 17:45:43 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Err, *hated* commies. Bloody auto-complete.

2019-04-23 18:06:51 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

@Tero

Yeah it was reduced by the tax act put in by Kennedy and passed in '64.

2019-04-23 18:16:20 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Yeah 20% is a decent drop. Do you mean it's not perfect? Ok but it's a large decrease. Better because revenue went up it served as a proof of Laffer that created an argument for future reductions.

2019-04-23 18:17:15 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

I mean "cut taxes and kill commies" works for me. Not gonna lie it gives me a freedom boner.

2019-04-23 18:25:26 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Rather that you got to keep three times as much as the previous rate. It's not like the president can just get anything they want mate. It's a larger tax cut than any other president pulled off since. You seem to be upset that the man was not magic. Well no. We will not get a magic president.

2019-04-23 18:29:56 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Wait.i think Reagan might have. So like Kennedy and Reagan are the presidents that accomplished large reductions in tax rates.

2019-04-23 22:51:24 UTC [Sparta #dank-memes]

Sargon did it three years ago though.

2019-04-23 22:54:52 UTC [Sparta #dank-memes]

So I mean you think Carl was following Bolsanaro in '14 and decided to copy him?

2019-04-23 22:55:48 UTC [Sparta #dank-memes]

Because, I mean, that as during peak GG and he had other things on his mind besides politics....

2019-04-23 23:31:03 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

I mean I have to agree with Tero here. It's Medieval. Like leaches. There is one treatment we are allowed to use and we do not compare it to other methods because doing so is verboten. In gender re-assignment or in leaches it's the same anti-scientific approach.

2019-04-23 23:32:33 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Intentionally embarking on a treatment regimen that has no comparative analysis is malfeasance.

2019-04-23 23:33:20 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

^^^

2019-04-23 23:34:15 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

The fact that it has co-morbidity with a number of other issues, issues that are not corrected by surgical intervention, is kinda a clue.

2019-04-23 23:38:36 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

A rather large difference being that unlike HRT or gender reassignment surgery one can recover from Anorexia.

2019-04-23 23:40:15 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

This is not to say I do not think you have the right to do whatever the fuck you want with your body. If you want to invest in any sort of cosmetic surgery or drug use that is your right. The medical endorsement of it is what I object to.

2019-04-23 23:46:00 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Yet even in those cases, untreated most children who experience dysphoria grow out of it and become normal homosexual adults.

2019-04-23 23:52:59 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Yeah homosexuality is fairly normal and consistent in human behavior. **There** we do have solid data. While not entirely innate the frequency is at a level over a long enough timeline to warrant that.

2019-04-23 23:57:44 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Oh yeah we are pretty strange in that aspect. I mean most primates engage in homosexual behavior but we are the only species where individuals do so exclusively. Like when chomps bugger each other it's a dominance display not a sexual preference. Trivers did some really interesting work on this.

2019-04-24 00:02:59 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

It's a specifically different behavior. Like a chimp that mounts another male as a dominance display will otherwise behave in a heterosexual manner. Our species is weird in that individuals will continue to engage in that behavior exclusive to reproductive sexual expression. Other primates do not do this. Even non-primates like those "lesbian" birds? They cheat with male birds.

2019-04-24 00:03:13 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

That's how they reproduce.

2019-04-24 00:04:12 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

This is, on the whole, not the strangest thing about humans. Like running is really really unusual....

2019-04-24 00:06:40 UTC [Sparta #dank-memes]

Dankula II the Turkeying......

2019-04-24 00:07:10 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

No, they really don't. Running is different than galloping.

2019-04-24 00:09:05 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Like you basically are leaning forward then, while falling, pushing yourself against the ground for propulsion. Dinosaurs had essentially avian physiology it's a different thing. There's a great CARTA lecture on this let me see if I can find it....

2019-04-24 00:11:00 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Yeah we actually outpace quadrupeds for distance.

2019-04-24 00:12:16 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Not as well as humans after a certain distance. We think that was a large part of early hunting. That while short-term we could not outpace herbivores over a longer stretch hominid groups could run them down.

2019-04-24 00:12:55 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Oh it was huge.

2019-04-24 00:13:49 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Like native American Bison hunting was pretty much all just endurance hunting. There's a large upfront cost in KCals but thee payoff is huge.

2019-04-24 00:16:47 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Our digestive system is adapted to running. Like the differences in our intestines from other primates. Cooking is a huge part f that. This is something we have data on. Women who take on the raw-food diet do not have estrus half the time because without cooking we cannot digest enough energy to reproduce. We are some weird weird monkeys.....

2019-04-24 00:36:59 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Ranged weapons are good but we're talking about flint tip spears here not a modern compound bow or even a recurve that can one-shot a deer. So even on a good hit you're going to have to track the game as it bleeds out. Now if you have a whole tribe of hunters and you can run down a whole herd of prey the payoff in calories gained for the investment is much higher.

2019-04-24 00:39:05 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

This also contributes to human eusociality. There is no way for a hunter to eat an elk or a bison before it goes bad. Even with his extended family. But if you store the meat in the stomachs of other families who might return the favor it does not go bad and it contributes to your survival.

2019-04-24 00:42:12 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

And yeah I am going back a few millennia here. Even the Sentinel Island tribe who broke off, what? a few thousand years ago? Still have non-recurve bows. A much higher tech than most of human history.

2019-04-24 00:44:24 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

I was using Sentinel as a yardstick. Our species is something like 200K years old. So looking at the first 180K years or so it's flint tipped spears of salvaged wood.

2019-04-24 00:46:16 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

I mean. I spent the last few years studying this so time perspective is important. Civilization is a new thing like the last few thousand years. An eyeblink in evolutionary time.

2019-04-24 00:49:07 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Right but that is relatively modern like the last 10000 years or so. Humans as a species separated from our common ancestor 3-5 million years ago.

2019-04-24 00:49:42 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Modern Homo-Sapiens like 150-200K.

2019-04-24 00:50:31 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Ok yeah sure homo-kekis is the endgame of evolution all intelligent people know that.

2019-04-24 00:53:01 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Yeah common ancestor. We're not descended from chimps. Chimps and humans have a common ancestor that is neither. Neanderthals were just another failed hominid offshoot. This kinda gets back to the ranged weapon thing if you look at the Mousterian toolsset.

2019-04-24 00:55:06 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

I don't like mumble rap. That doesn't mean it should be illegal....

2019-04-24 00:58:15 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

@Tero

Yeah. As our closest living relative. There are a whole pile of extinct hominids on our fork. Likely a lot of extinct pongids on theirs we just don't focus on the chimp fossil records like we do hominids. There's a chimp genome project though so we can get a lot of data from that.

2019-04-24 00:59:55 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

This gets kinda weird though because there is more genetic variation between populations of chimps on the same landmass than there is among humans on the planet. Genetic expression is some weird shit my dude.

2019-04-24 01:02:37 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

One theory is that we had a mass die-off event in the late paleolithic that created a sort of genetic choke point and that would explain the lack of variation. But no for human ancestors we've got aa decent gauge of time and place using MtDNA. Because it is non-recombinant we don't have to estimate cross-breeding.

2019-04-24 01:03:57 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Spermatazoa are too small to contain Mitochondria so it is strictly maternal. That makes it really convenient to track descent because we can ignore other factors.

2019-04-24 01:09:41 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

No people have an innalable right to make horrible music. And I have an insliable right to look down on them for their poor taste.

2019-04-24 01:12:29 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

I don't know Hancock in particular but it is a fairly well accepted theory in the literature. It's also theorized that under such a die-off event the Hamilton inequality would be maximized again giving an evolutionary cause for our unusual prosocial behavior. We cannot **prove** this but it has some value as a model.

2019-04-24 01:16:26 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

@Sock

I didn't say anything was particularly bad. I think Rogan is a valuable outlet I just do not know that specific individual.

2019-04-24 01:19:27 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

12800 would have been late paleolithic or upper Halocene so well within the timeline. It's a bit early though because our species had already dispersed by that point. So (without knowing all of Hancock's ideas) I think he might be going too short term for the event to have merit.

2019-04-24 01:23:36 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

There's some speculative climatology in this too. Like the central African biome was much more temperate back then. It is entirely possible that we left that climate because it became more hostile over the course of the Holocene.

2019-04-24 01:26:04 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Never turn your back on the shifty-eyed Canuck. 1812 NEVER FORGET!

2019-04-24 01:27:41 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

The wildlings North of The Wall do not know civilization nor decency.

2019-04-24 01:35:22 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

There are only two species. Humans, and Canadians.

2019-04-24 01:54:25 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

It's plastic. It doesn't cost shit. Thiss is true of most of Canukistan.

2019-04-24 01:58:10 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Kronor are like that too. Like the first time I held I 5 Kronor coin I thought "Is this real? Do people use this as money????"

2019-04-24 01:58:51 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Canuck bills are made of plastic too btw.

2019-04-24 02:35:39 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Fun fact the Filipinas kept making their pennies out of copper and for a while you could buy them up and sell them as metal for more than a penny...

2019-04-25 02:56:57 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

The audio is scratchy as fuk but that's not really the problem. His thesis is wrong. First many industries already sponsor education for in-house promotion. If you are say a steel foundry you prefer a man who has a year or two experience in steel with an education in material sciences or metallurgy so they give scholarships to employees who show promise.

Second the purpose more generally of higher education (and I define that rather loosely here) is to prove that an individual has a basic level of cognitive function and can persist at a task for a period of at least four years. These are, depressingly, a valuable set of character traits.

2019-04-25 02:59:06 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

I mean, Kamala is not gay. I think this is a major problem for her. She even identifies with the gender binary. Basically she's Hitler.....

2019-04-25 03:00:04 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

They who? Not ((({{{[[[the mrmons]]]}}})))?!?!?!?!

2019-04-25 03:02:55 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Yeah I get you. Definitely the Mormons.......

2019-04-25 17:48:48 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

The oil argument doesn't really hold. Historically yes securing oil reserves was the reason for US involvement in ME. But recently we had a series of revolutions in extraction technology and the US is a net exporter of fossil fuel now.

2019-04-26 00:12:29 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Caught that did you? He starts out by agreeing the Marxism is trash then goes through a series of explanations why he wants a socialist system anyway. I'm a bit disappointed Jordan didn't call him out on that...

2019-04-26 00:33:06 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

@Fitzydog

The alt-right are loser to socialists than most other ideologies anyway. Like if you listen to Spencer when he gets off the topic of race he sounds more like Bernie Sanders than anyone on the right....

2019-04-26 00:35:51 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Well I conflate the two because whenever I am assured they are different I ask where these other alt-right are. And am universally directed to ethnats.....

2019-04-26 00:36:52 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

It's like I admit the possibility that there are somewhere in the world gamergaters who really want all women out of video games. I just have never seen one....

2019-04-26 00:39:38 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

^^^^

2019-04-26 00:40:16 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Although I'm not even sure I'm a moderate. Like fairly extreme groups like the 3% and OK hate the ethnats.

2019-04-26 00:40:31 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

It's kinda universal.
