that's a very linear way of seeing things

china is gaining lot's of new allies and friends

due to it's belt and road initiative and investments around the world

not as much as before

many countries are now turning to china for trade deals and investments

mainly in Africa and the middle east

China's strategy is just much more appealing

they are doing to africa and the middle east what the US did to europe after ww2

but i'd argue even better, because they are essentially not losing anything

it's not about military dude

it's about soft power and economic leverage

these countries like ethiopia, Iran, Pakistan, etc which have very strategic value in Geopolitics, find it much more valueable to side with a country that invests in their economy than to side with a country that has a recent history of invading whoever doesnt side with them

Chinese banks loan money to these poor countries to invest in infrastructure » these countries use these loans to pay chinese companies to build infrastructure in said country » these countries then cant pay back the loan so they sell the newly built infrastructure to another chinese company. all the while the chinese government owning or partially owning the said companies

and what happens is that a lot of countries end up selling out core industries to the country's sovereignty to a chinese firms, and effectively become puppets of the chinese state

and internationally, whenever a crisis shows up they will side with china, otherwise their electricity is cut/ their trains stop working/ their ports are closed

it would replace the US in terms of global influence
