in avengers 1 she was competent in the scenes where she was on her own, showed resourcefulness when she tricked Loki into revealing that he wanted to unleash the hulk, and even though she has no place in a battle like new york she did her part

in avengers 2 she got a random psuedo-relationship with hulk which nobody seemed to want and gave hawkeye a surprise family

and then she got kidnapped by mr.roboto and spent a chunk of the movie incapacitated

but a lot of people saw more chemistry with her and barton

if they just kept his family I'd have been fine

but the hulk relationship felt like joss was forcefully writing them not as dating

and the hulk relationship went nowhere, and was kinda lame

But to suddenly have nat, the super-cool super-spy badass who breaks hearts and necks for a living, to date the anxious rage-man?

You can have him appear to have feelings for her, but she wants too be professional about it

and it comes from that weird "go to sleep" maneuver she can pull on him

they figure out taht it works and Bruce starts getting a little infatuated while Nat cannot let that happen yadda yadda

Point is, Avengers Assemble was his masterpiece hero film

and AoU was a hot mess by comparison
