I have a slightly better than stock 351 Iโm putting together to drop into it for a rebuild
Nah it was straight up a junk battery, he couldnโt jump it to start it but never bought a new battery
wanna good tip
always check your lug nuts on a criagslist purchase
or your tire falls off going 70 a day after you buy it
bc the cunt finger tightend it
I check them after every purchase
live n learn
Even after tire shops
No one knows what a damn torque wrench is
>mfw mechanics left my dip stick pipe thingy out when they replaced my starter bc i couldnt get the goddam bolts off myself
Iโve gotten to the point I donโt even let them mount tires anymore on my personal trucks. I just block the truck and take the tires in to be balanced
They did a what now
left this
unattached
so oil went fucking EVERYWHERE
Yeh I knew what you meant I was just wrapping my head around the stupidity
Itโs okay took my diesel to the ford house and they forgot to tighten the filter
I was a little upset because 1) I thought my engine started pissing oil and I was upset
2) there is now a black spot in my driven
same but at least i got a free oil change
Yeah, im just done taking my be vehicles in for anything thatโs not major
Iโd expect that from jiffy lube
Paying a ford tech 500 bucks for fluid swaps and getting a leaking oil filter made me a little angry
> I have a slightly better than stock 351 Iโm putting together to drop into it for a rebuild
@baconreclaimer Cleveland or Windsor?
Windsor
Has edelbrock intake, lunati cam but I canโt remember the lobe specs, rebuilt engine minus the crank, and Iโm debating whether to throw my 650 carb on it or get a summit EFI Kit
Iโd like to throw some heads on it too but I think Iโm going to save that money for the rest of the build, keep it simple and maybe do something a little more powerful with the engine Iโm pulling
Still planning out streetable do I want it, potentially will be my daily so thinking 4โ lift and suspension kit, upgrade fuel pumps and tune the carb, dual exhaust but nothing super loud set up the bed for 4x4ing and bug out shit
Definitely repaint it and eventually redo the interior, floor panels are bed lined already
If youre going bug out i would keep the carb. Much more serviceable in a SHTF situation
Theres not much that can go wrong to the point you cant fucker it to get it somewhere better suited to repair
Thatโs my thought process, maybe save the EFI shit for something else
With a good tuned 650 I should still get about 15 mpg
Which could get me about 350-375 miles each fill up
A basic efi system is pretty damn indestructible short of an EMP, which is maybe a 0.0000000001% chance of happening at any point. As neat as it is to think of how things would be afterwards...
Problem with the EFI is you now have a high pressure fuel system
So Iโd have to change fuel pumps, lines and filters
Where if I keep it as a carb I can at least rob parts from other fords
I agree they do just fine but in a situation where parts and service may be an issue i would prefer the peace of mind of being able to grab shit from similar vehicles
Lines you can mostly keep rubber. Cut an access hole or use an external fuel pump and keep a spare in the vehicle would be my idea behind it. Could rig anything from any other vehicle. FPR would be the biggest concern imo.
Never mind Iโm retarded
Itโs 60-100 psi
I could use high pressure line for that but Iโd prefer stainless
Could probably jerry rig a way to reduce pressure if I had to swap it back to a carb, linkages are the same
Yeah. Honestly just get a good holley FPR. I imagine the larger carb uses anywhere from 6-15 psi? I've only really messed with small carbs on old japanese shit boxes. Not dealing with that anymore though....
98 Discovery 1... Btw, anyone selling a winch? lol
Iโd have to look at the specs but I think itโs around 10psi stock
I have two 650edelbrocks sitting on my bench that Iโd use
Canโt beat free
Yeah. Might as well use what you've already got. Spend the savings on wear parts and suspension.
Yup
Hoping by the end of summer Iโm ready to tag it and end of next year have it where I want it
Looking at roughly 6-7k at the moment projected cost to finish
Which at the end of the day is still cheap for a classic 4x4 in good condition
@Soulraiser i think the winches at HF are pretty good and theyre cheep
Yeah, that's a great price for a classic. I've got 4500 into this Discovery 1 but it's also borderline mint aside from saggy headliner. While being able to do pretty much anything you could ever ask for offroad, short of being a rock crawling buggy or some really crazy shit. All with great A/C and great sound from the factory. Lol I've heard some bad things about HF winches but maybe they've improved. Worth a shot I suppose, as it'll be more for getting other people out than myself. Assuming maxtrax fail.
Very nice
Shane is right, HF has two lines their bottom barrel stuff and their Quinn line
The Quinn line IMO is nicer than craftsman, crescent, husky and kobalt hand tool lines
Cheap as all get out and no questions asked warranty
Gotta replace an 02 Nissan altima ac compressor for someone, does anyone know what years are interchangeable for that part gonna go junk yard shopping tomorrow used to working on my chevy so first Nissan repair for me.
@TexasPatriot0930 02-06
And videos I see on YouTube for 06 would be the same install procedure for an 02? Thanks for your answer btw!
Yessir. I work for Infiniti actually so I unfortunately know all about Nissans๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ we just sold my wifeโs 04 Altima a few weeks ago when she got her 17 Sentra turbo, and not 3 weeks later the rod 3 packed its bags and headed south for good.
The Altima, not the Sentra.
Damn. Hopefully this one is good after I replace the compressor. Whats your thoughts on the altima for that year? Are they troublesome or you think you got a lemon?
Personally, Iโm biased against a Nissan unless itโs a s14 or s15, but theyโre not bad. They have problems just like every other make and model. Biggest thing with them is the transmissions because they have a CVT trans and you canโt beat on them. Hers was a good car, it just had a lot of miles on it. Hers was knocking on 264xxx when we got rid of it. Hers had an issue with using oil and it would smoke pretty bad on start up, and I just never got around to digging into it. It was either bad valve seals or PCV valve. Overall though, it was good. Just DEFINITELY keep up the maintainence on it, and itโll be fine. Regular oil changes, coolant flushes, but ONLY use blue Nissan coolant if you donโt flush it. Nissan uses some retarded ass coolant that if itโs mixed with any other color, itโll gel up and youโll have a cooling system full of jello.
Thanks for taking to time to share your thoughts on it, hopefully this one we got runs without more issues after tomorrow.๐ค
@baconreclaimer - 351W motors aren't all that common, that will be an interesting build.
What are you talking about
351w is stupid common
302 and 351w share a lot of commonality, even the 5.8L later released. Central US is also littered with 60s-90s model trucks
Itโs the modified and Cleveland motors that are scarce at least here that is
Yeah, 351W is extremely common. 351C on the other hand is rare as shit. I had one in my old 85 Lincoln Hearse that ran like a raped ape. Buuuuut I sold it...
Pretty sure by volume 351w is probably fords second most common v8 ever made
351C is awesome tbh
If you want to do something stupid with it you can bore it out and get silly with it
I have seen more 260/289/302s and Clevelands than I can count but only a couple 351Ws. I first wrenched on a 302 back in the mid-80s. Then I got smart and went Mopar and never went back.
However, I would kill for a CobraJet powered '72 Gran Torino Sport.
*technically* the 260,289 and 302s are all Windsorโs
iirc they are all the same block with different bores
@baconreclaimer - oh I know
Every ford ive ever ran across was a 302, 351w or a 460
Unless you were unfortunate and had the 300
My asshole father owned a '73 Mustang Coupe with a 302v2. I learned my Ford from him, and then Mopar when I upgraded.
Thatโs not to say they were bad but youโre not getting anywhere fast
I always enjoyed a old 318
The problem with Ford was the restrictive heads. They choked their motors.
Any dodge truck Iโve ever owned tbh
Only issues I had was the first gen of 5.9s after the 24 valve
I learned to drive in a '68 Plymouth Sport Fury III wagon with a 318.
Buts thatโs more a Cummins issues than dodges
For some reason they decided the exhaust manifold should dump out over the #2 cylinder instead of the 3/4 holes
Which cooked #6 over time
They fixed that in later models but guess who had the one that liked to drop cylinder 6
I've only ever owned gas motors.
Diesel is bae
Iโm a truck guy though
