I have a slightly better than stock 351 Iโ€™m putting together to drop into it for a rebuild

2020-05-06 16:53:19 UTC

Nah it was straight up a junk battery, he couldnโ€™t jump it to start it but never bought a new battery

2020-05-06 16:53:34 UTC

wanna good tip

2020-05-06 16:53:46 UTC

always check your lug nuts on a criagslist purchase

2020-05-06 16:53:55 UTC

or your tire falls off going 70 a day after you buy it

2020-05-06 16:54:01 UTC

bc the cunt finger tightend it

2020-05-06 16:54:06 UTC

I check them after every purchase

2020-05-06 16:54:13 UTC

live n learn

2020-05-06 16:54:14 UTC

Even after tire shops

2020-05-06 16:54:20 UTC

No one knows what a damn torque wrench is

2020-05-06 16:55:04 UTC

>mfw mechanics left my dip stick pipe thingy out when they replaced my starter bc i couldnt get the goddam bolts off myself

2020-05-06 16:55:11 UTC

Iโ€™ve gotten to the point I donโ€™t even let them mount tires anymore on my personal trucks. I just block the truck and take the tires in to be balanced

2020-05-06 16:55:25 UTC

They did a what now

left this

2020-05-06 16:55:49 UTC

unattached

2020-05-06 16:55:57 UTC

so oil went fucking EVERYWHERE

2020-05-06 16:59:06 UTC

Yeh I knew what you meant I was just wrapping my head around the stupidity

2020-05-06 16:59:21 UTC

Itโ€™s okay took my diesel to the ford house and they forgot to tighten the filter

2020-05-06 17:00:02 UTC

I was a little upset because 1) I thought my engine started pissing oil and I was upset
2) there is now a black spot in my driven

2020-05-06 17:01:29 UTC

same but at least i got a free oil change

2020-05-06 17:02:25 UTC

Yeah, im just done taking my be vehicles in for anything thatโ€™s not major

2020-05-06 17:02:37 UTC

Iโ€™d expect that from jiffy lube

2020-05-06 17:03:07 UTC

Paying a ford tech 500 bucks for fluid swaps and getting a leaking oil filter made me a little angry

2020-05-06 17:22:10 UTC

> I have a slightly better than stock 351 Iโ€™m putting together to drop into it for a rebuild
@baconreclaimer Cleveland or Windsor?

2020-05-06 17:28:31 UTC

Windsor

2020-05-06 17:29:35 UTC

Has edelbrock intake, lunati cam but I canโ€™t remember the lobe specs, rebuilt engine minus the crank, and Iโ€™m debating whether to throw my 650 carb on it or get a summit EFI Kit

2020-05-06 17:30:10 UTC

Iโ€™d like to throw some heads on it too but I think Iโ€™m going to save that money for the rest of the build, keep it simple and maybe do something a little more powerful with the engine Iโ€™m pulling

2020-05-06 17:32:20 UTC

Still planning out streetable do I want it, potentially will be my daily so thinking 4โ€ lift and suspension kit, upgrade fuel pumps and tune the carb, dual exhaust but nothing super loud set up the bed for 4x4ing and bug out shit

2020-05-06 17:32:44 UTC

Definitely repaint it and eventually redo the interior, floor panels are bed lined already

2020-05-06 18:59:19 UTC

If youre going bug out i would keep the carb. Much more serviceable in a SHTF situation

2020-05-06 18:59:49 UTC

Theres not much that can go wrong to the point you cant fucker it to get it somewhere better suited to repair

2020-05-06 19:11:50 UTC

Thatโ€™s my thought process, maybe save the EFI shit for something else

2020-05-06 19:12:01 UTC

With a good tuned 650 I should still get about 15 mpg

2020-05-06 19:13:16 UTC

Which could get me about 350-375 miles each fill up

2020-05-06 19:38:49 UTC

A basic efi system is pretty damn indestructible short of an EMP, which is maybe a 0.0000000001% chance of happening at any point. As neat as it is to think of how things would be afterwards...

2020-05-06 19:39:45 UTC

Problem with the EFI is you now have a high pressure fuel system

2020-05-06 19:40:07 UTC

So Iโ€™d have to change fuel pumps, lines and filters

2020-05-06 19:40:26 UTC

Where if I keep it as a carb I can at least rob parts from other fords

2020-05-06 19:41:07 UTC

I agree they do just fine but in a situation where parts and service may be an issue i would prefer the peace of mind of being able to grab shit from similar vehicles

2020-05-06 19:47:43 UTC

Lines you can mostly keep rubber. Cut an access hole or use an external fuel pump and keep a spare in the vehicle would be my idea behind it. Could rig anything from any other vehicle. FPR would be the biggest concern imo.

2020-05-06 19:49:42 UTC

Never mind Iโ€™m retarded

2020-05-06 19:49:55 UTC

Itโ€™s 60-100 psi

2020-05-06 19:50:11 UTC

I could use high pressure line for that but Iโ€™d prefer stainless

2020-05-06 19:51:24 UTC

Could probably jerry rig a way to reduce pressure if I had to swap it back to a carb, linkages are the same

2020-05-06 19:58:56 UTC

Yeah. Honestly just get a good holley FPR. I imagine the larger carb uses anywhere from 6-15 psi? I've only really messed with small carbs on old japanese shit boxes. Not dealing with that anymore though....

2020-05-06 20:00:20 UTC

98 Discovery 1... Btw, anyone selling a winch? lol

2020-05-06 20:35:34 UTC

Iโ€™d have to look at the specs but I think itโ€™s around 10psi stock

2020-05-06 20:35:59 UTC

I have two 650edelbrocks sitting on my bench that Iโ€™d use

2020-05-06 20:36:03 UTC

Canโ€™t beat free

2020-05-06 20:38:56 UTC

Yeah. Might as well use what you've already got. Spend the savings on wear parts and suspension.

2020-05-06 20:39:50 UTC

Yup

2020-05-06 20:40:19 UTC

Hoping by the end of summer Iโ€™m ready to tag it and end of next year have it where I want it

2020-05-06 20:40:35 UTC

Looking at roughly 6-7k at the moment projected cost to finish

2020-05-06 20:40:55 UTC

Which at the end of the day is still cheap for a classic 4x4 in good condition

2020-05-06 20:47:20 UTC

@Soulraiser i think the winches at HF are pretty good and theyre cheep

2020-05-06 20:58:24 UTC

Yeah, that's a great price for a classic. I've got 4500 into this Discovery 1 but it's also borderline mint aside from saggy headliner. While being able to do pretty much anything you could ever ask for offroad, short of being a rock crawling buggy or some really crazy shit. All with great A/C and great sound from the factory. Lol I've heard some bad things about HF winches but maybe they've improved. Worth a shot I suppose, as it'll be more for getting other people out than myself. Assuming maxtrax fail.

2020-05-06 21:41:27 UTC

Very nice

2020-05-06 21:42:13 UTC

Shane is right, HF has two lines their bottom barrel stuff and their Quinn line

2020-05-06 21:42:54 UTC

The Quinn line IMO is nicer than craftsman, crescent, husky and kobalt hand tool lines

2020-05-06 21:43:09 UTC

Cheap as all get out and no questions asked warranty

2020-05-06 23:28:39 UTC

Gotta replace an 02 Nissan altima ac compressor for someone, does anyone know what years are interchangeable for that part gonna go junk yard shopping tomorrow used to working on my chevy so first Nissan repair for me.

2020-05-06 23:29:35 UTC
2020-05-06 23:30:08 UTC

And videos I see on YouTube for 06 would be the same install procedure for an 02? Thanks for your answer btw!

2020-05-06 23:31:37 UTC

Yessir. I work for Infiniti actually so I unfortunately know all about Nissans๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ we just sold my wifeโ€™s 04 Altima a few weeks ago when she got her 17 Sentra turbo, and not 3 weeks later the rod 3 packed its bags and headed south for good.

2020-05-06 23:31:54 UTC

The Altima, not the Sentra.

2020-05-06 23:32:54 UTC

Damn. Hopefully this one is good after I replace the compressor. Whats your thoughts on the altima for that year? Are they troublesome or you think you got a lemon?

2020-05-06 23:39:11 UTC

Personally, Iโ€™m biased against a Nissan unless itโ€™s a s14 or s15, but theyโ€™re not bad. They have problems just like every other make and model. Biggest thing with them is the transmissions because they have a CVT trans and you canโ€™t beat on them. Hers was a good car, it just had a lot of miles on it. Hers was knocking on 264xxx when we got rid of it. Hers had an issue with using oil and it would smoke pretty bad on start up, and I just never got around to digging into it. It was either bad valve seals or PCV valve. Overall though, it was good. Just DEFINITELY keep up the maintainence on it, and itโ€™ll be fine. Regular oil changes, coolant flushes, but ONLY use blue Nissan coolant if you donโ€™t flush it. Nissan uses some retarded ass coolant that if itโ€™s mixed with any other color, itโ€™ll gel up and youโ€™ll have a cooling system full of jello.

2020-05-07 00:24:46 UTC

Thanks for taking to time to share your thoughts on it, hopefully this one we got runs without more issues after tomorrow.๐Ÿคž

2020-05-07 00:27:44 UTC

@baconreclaimer - 351W motors aren't all that common, that will be an interesting build.

2020-05-07 00:28:05 UTC

What are you talking about

2020-05-07 00:28:24 UTC

351w is stupid common

2020-05-07 00:29:46 UTC

302 and 351w share a lot of commonality, even the 5.8L later released. Central US is also littered with 60s-90s model trucks

2020-05-07 00:30:35 UTC

Itโ€™s the modified and Cleveland motors that are scarce at least here that is

2020-05-07 00:38:44 UTC

Yeah, 351W is extremely common. 351C on the other hand is rare as shit. I had one in my old 85 Lincoln Hearse that ran like a raped ape. Buuuuut I sold it...

2020-05-07 00:44:33 UTC

Pretty sure by volume 351w is probably fords second most common v8 ever made

2020-05-07 00:44:49 UTC

351C is awesome tbh

2020-05-07 00:45:14 UTC

If you want to do something stupid with it you can bore it out and get silly with it

2020-05-07 00:48:11 UTC

I have seen more 260/289/302s and Clevelands than I can count but only a couple 351Ws. I first wrenched on a 302 back in the mid-80s. Then I got smart and went Mopar and never went back.

2020-05-07 00:48:58 UTC

However, I would kill for a CobraJet powered '72 Gran Torino Sport.

2020-05-07 00:50:22 UTC

*technically* the 260,289 and 302s are all Windsorโ€™s

2020-05-07 00:50:32 UTC

iirc they are all the same block with different bores

2020-05-07 00:51:12 UTC

@baconreclaimer - oh I know

2020-05-07 00:51:31 UTC

Every ford ive ever ran across was a 302, 351w or a 460

2020-05-07 00:51:41 UTC

Unless you were unfortunate and had the 300

2020-05-07 00:52:57 UTC

My asshole father owned a '73 Mustang Coupe with a 302v2. I learned my Ford from him, and then Mopar when I upgraded.

2020-05-07 00:53:13 UTC

Thatโ€™s not to say they were bad but youโ€™re not getting anywhere fast

2020-05-07 00:53:45 UTC

I always enjoyed a old 318

2020-05-07 00:53:55 UTC

The problem with Ford was the restrictive heads. They choked their motors.

2020-05-07 00:54:08 UTC

Any dodge truck Iโ€™ve ever owned tbh

2020-05-07 00:54:37 UTC

Only issues I had was the first gen of 5.9s after the 24 valve

2020-05-07 00:54:45 UTC

I learned to drive in a '68 Plymouth Sport Fury III wagon with a 318.

2020-05-07 00:54:49 UTC

Buts thatโ€™s more a Cummins issues than dodges

2020-05-07 00:55:25 UTC

For some reason they decided the exhaust manifold should dump out over the #2 cylinder instead of the 3/4 holes

2020-05-07 00:55:38 UTC

Which cooked #6 over time

2020-05-07 00:56:02 UTC

They fixed that in later models but guess who had the one that liked to drop cylinder 6

2020-05-07 00:59:43 UTC

I've only ever owned gas motors.

2020-05-07 01:00:03 UTC

Diesel is bae

2020-05-07 01:00:12 UTC

Iโ€™m a truck guy though
