Ground rules
1) Consolidate your posts
This channel is intended for slower paced, more thoughtful discussion. Rather than spam several short posts in quick succession, take the time to put all your points together in a longer message. This is especially important if the point you are trying to get across would take up more than two or three shorter posts. **Take away: multiple short posts count as __message spam__.**
2) Donโt outsource your argument
Sources are helpful in debate, but a high source-to-argument ratio is not. Limit the number of links you use to one or two, especially if your posts are light on your own argument. If you have a lot of resources to share, create a link list elsewhere and link to that, but donโt expect your sources to do all the heavy lifting: wading through links when the meat of the argument should be in your post is frustrating. **Take away: Lots of links without much actual post content is __link spam__.**
3) Flamebait and Ad Homs arenโt debate
Debates can be heated, but there is no reason to abuse others if you are arguing in good faith. While one or two insults in frustration can be understandable, constant put downs do not aid discussion, and can derail debates. Argue the point, not the man, or take it to another channel. **Take away: Be civil. Abusing other debaters counts as __disruption__.**
4) Donโt be random
If people are having a serious conversation, donโt interrupt with unrelated posts or try to derail the discussion. If someone else disrupts the conversation, donโt join in and add to the problem. It isnโt fair to those who want to use the channel as intended. Multiple concurrent debates are fine, but shitpost elsewhere. **Take away: Random, derailing posts during active debates are __disruption__**.
Obviously there is some leeway: what might be acceptable in one discussion may be inappropriate in another. However, actions like repeatedly proclaiming your opponentsโ inferiority are debate killers, and do not belong in this channel, no matter how expert you might be in a subject.
Report spam and disruption using `?report @user [reason]`. It may be helpful when doing so to reference this post.
Do **not** disrupt the channel in kind. This muddies the waters when mods investigate, and could see you joining the initial offender in cells. In the first instance, avoid engaging with that behaviour. If it potentially requires action, report.
These rules are in place to keep the channel useable, so donโt be petty; only report serious cases of rule breaks, as opposed to minor, ignorable, infractions.
This is a special interest channel, not a general one. If you canโt play nice, go elsewhere. If there is too much squabbling, or the requirement for mod intervention becomes excessive (users repeatedly adding to existing problems, etc), the channel may be removed.
Mods are gay <:pepelaugh:544857300179877898>
fucking finally
was this due to whatshisface
who only posts in this channel
yes
Biological differences between ethnicities are more responsible for disparities in socioeconomic status then "systemic racism".
there i said it
Opinions on this?
<https://www.economist.com/europe/2020/02/22/poland-is-cocking-up-migration-in-a-very-european-way>
```It(Poland) took in more workers from outside the eu in 2018 than any other countryโnearly five times more than Germanyโand is likely to have repeated the trick again in 2019. Nearly 2m Ukrainians have arrived since 2014, pushed by a ropy national economy and a war in the countryโs east, and pulled by higher wages in Poland. They are not alone. In the past three years 36,000 Nepalese, 20,000 Indians and 18,000 Bangladeshis have moved to Poland. It is a big shift: Poland, a country of 38m inhabitants, had only 100,000 foreigners of any stripe in 2011. Migration is seen as a political faultline in the eu, with an open west set against a closed east. Yet Poland is, quietly, starting to look more like its peers in western Europe```
Personally I think it is the culture of anti-intellectualism in some communities that hold them back nowadays
what are mods? I don't think I've seen one on this server
if only **THE ONE WHO SHAL NOT BE NAMED** used the Steelman technique this would have never happened
@Ethreen42 Simple, Indians and Bangladeshis start killing each other in the streets, and the Poles may just be smart enough to boot them the fuck out when it happens. We shall see. In any case, their political class betrayed the common man by importing subpar people to replace them and drive down wages. I hear the Poles are opposed to LGBT and communism, which makes it more likely that they will also oppose this at some point.
@SkeF Conversely, some communities suffer from all of the faux-intellectualism. It's one thing to ba a hillbilly who thinks the Earth is flat (anti-intellectual; smart people are wrong), it's quite another to be a college student who thinks there is no biological sex (faux-intellectual; I am smart, and you are wrong).
What's the difference?
@Windleaf What is steelman technique?
@Jake the Exile Level of pretentiousness, mostly.
Both believe they have special knowledge that others don't and they got it from a higher source.
In one case, you explicitly reject intellectualism, while in the other, you reject it by substituting it with your own retarded thing (in the case of commies, it's their gender theory bullshit.
How is flat-earth not rejecting common sense and replacing it with something else
Aren't they exactly the same
maybe the flat earth is a bad example
but how many academic papers does the Flat earth theory have, and how many does Gender theory and LGBT studies have?
Flat earth is not part of academia, destroying your kids with transgenderism is.
Maybe that is the real divide here.
"I hear the Poles are opposed to LGBT" not as much as they were 20 years ago, I fully expect Poland to be as progressive as Ireland in 40 years if nothing happens @Goddess Tyche
Maybe we should ask a Pole about his opinion.
Poland has one of the lowest native birth rates in Europe
Sup
I wouldn't be surprised if Poland went the Irish way. That'll happen if cityfolk keep expanding their power.
Ooooooohweeeee <#680587502918041623> is baaaack!
can you share the source on that @TheCaledonian
ohgod it's jakubmarian again here
ahh that looks better
"Theย fertility rateย forย Polandย in 2018 was 1.420 births per woman, a 1.21% increase from 2017. Theย fertility rateย forPolandย in 2017 was 1.403 births per woman, a 1.23% increase from 2016"
1.4 kids per women
Replacement level is 2.1
i know
It's not such a major problem since Poland is overwhelmingly polish
LGBT acceptance is pretty high among the Polish youth if I remember correctly, most of them want civil unions, though i think there's a slight majority who are opposed to same sex marriage
cant remember the exact numbers but it was from a Pew research poll
green yes, red no
something somehting
the website says:
'Influencing the acceptance of single-sex relationship is the familiarity with individual people of different orientation. Among the cohort, those who know a gay or a lesbian personally, more than a half (54%) thinks, that they should have the ability to formalise their relationship. Those, who have no homosexuals in their peer group, the proportion is only 24%, while the majority is opposed to formalising of same-sex relationships (71%)'
take your western source and shove it
better then I thought tbh
still though, going from 25% to 35% in 8 years isn't particularly ideal
it only took America 20-30 years to go from 35% to 60% in favour of gay marriage
we'll see how it goes; the problem is the US being a hugely influential culture in polan
and the marxists went from cautious to outspoken if the media i saw are any indication; the progressive media should get fined into oblivion ngl
Marriage should be abolished altogether, it's a destructive institution that harms the nuclear family.
It leads to high divorce rates
^_^
Without marriage, people would have more incentive to stay together.
Abolish divorce on demand
"feminists can't destroy the nuclear family if we do first!"
"we'll see how it goes; the problem is the US being a hugely influential culture in polan"
American Globalism and Culture has been pretty bad for western society in almost every metric
some western thing here lol
America, and it's consequences, have been a disaster for European civilisation around the world
exactly eth and you know... we deal with the russ being the same by knowing they're the enemey. but the US is the friend a role model of a free society so WGAP
The only good thing America brought was the concept of the free market
public opinion of the others takes forever to catch up to reality
> The only good thing America brought was the concept of the free market
That was dutch and the free market is gay
>free market
>good
god damned commies....
> never lived in a planned economy
> free market not good
rub chilli in your ass boi
>thinks being opposed to the free market makes you a communist
damn bro I want regulations I must be Marx tbh
literal Marx
Every economy is a planned economy
Free markets dont exist in the real world
'we all die so why live' scale of thinking i see
wut
Free markets do exist. The most commonly known one is the black market.
i went to the black market once, i got gypped. fucking niggers
Fact: without the black market, North Korea would already have starved to death.
I would rather get a liver on-demand from a young Pilipino boy than die waiting for my (((free))) healthcare to get it for me
by the silence I assume the commies have all died from an overdose of facts and logic
There isn't any commies here lmao
I just don't worship GDP
ok commie
Wow, literally Marxism
"Everyone I dont like is a communist"
yes
to be clear the american style totalitarian capitalism is as bad as anything totalitarian.
by totalitarian i mean the word in its dictionary sense of 'all-encompassing'
Oh, that's funny. I had a note on Xovia that says "bootlicker" <:pot_of_kek:544849795433496586>
kek, thankyou
