Ground rules

1) Consolidate your posts
This channel is intended for slower paced, more thoughtful discussion. Rather than spam several short posts in quick succession, take the time to put all your points together in a longer message. This is especially important if the point you are trying to get across would take up more than two or three shorter posts. **Take away: multiple short posts count as __message spam__.**

2) Don’t outsource your argument
Sources are helpful in debate, but a high source-to-argument ratio is not. Limit the number of links you use to one or two, especially if your posts are light on your own argument. If you have a lot of resources to share, create a link list elsewhere and link to that, but don’t expect your sources to do all the heavy lifting: wading through links when the meat of the argument should be in your post is frustrating. **Take away: Lots of links without much actual post content is __link spam__.**

3) Flamebait and Ad Homs aren’t debate
Debates can be heated, but there is no reason to abuse others if you are arguing in good faith. While one or two insults in frustration can be understandable, constant put downs do not aid discussion, and can derail debates. Argue the point, not the man, or take it to another channel. **Take away: Be civil. Abusing other debaters counts as __disruption__.**

2020-02-22 01:33:12 UTC

4) Don’t be random
If people are having a serious conversation, don’t interrupt with unrelated posts or try to derail the discussion. If someone else disrupts the conversation, don’t join in and add to the problem. It isn’t fair to those who want to use the channel as intended. Multiple concurrent debates are fine, but shitpost elsewhere. **Take away: Random, derailing posts during active debates are __disruption__**.

Obviously there is some leeway: what might be acceptable in one discussion may be inappropriate in another. However, actions like repeatedly proclaiming your opponents’ inferiority are debate killers, and do not belong in this channel, no matter how expert you might be in a subject.

Report spam and disruption using `?report @user [reason]`. It may be helpful when doing so to reference this post.

Do **not** disrupt the channel in kind. This muddies the waters when mods investigate, and could see you joining the initial offender in cells. In the first instance, avoid engaging with that behaviour. If it potentially requires action, report.

These rules are in place to keep the channel useable, so don’t be petty; only report serious cases of rule breaks, as opposed to minor, ignorable, infractions.

This is a special interest channel, not a general one. If you can’t play nice, go elsewhere. If there is too much squabbling, or the requirement for mod intervention becomes excessive (users repeatedly adding to existing problems, etc), the channel may be removed.

Biological differences between ethnicities are more responsible for disparities in socioeconomic status then "systemic racism".

Opinions on this?
<https://www.economist.com/europe/2020/02/22/poland-is-cocking-up-migration-in-a-very-european-way>
```It(Poland) took in more workers from outside the eu in 2018 than any other country—nearly five times more than Germany—and is likely to have repeated the trick again in 2019. Nearly 2m Ukrainians have arrived since 2014, pushed by a ropy national economy and a war in the country’s east, and pulled by higher wages in Poland. They are not alone. In the past three years 36,000 Nepalese, 20,000 Indians and 18,000 Bangladeshis have moved to Poland. It is a big shift: Poland, a country of 38m inhabitants, had only 100,000 foreigners of any stripe in 2011. Migration is seen as a political faultline in the eu, with an open west set against a closed east. Yet Poland is, quietly, starting to look more like its peers in western Europe```
Personally I think it is the culture of anti-intellectualism in some communities that hold them back nowadays
2020-02-22 01:58:15 UTC
what are mods? I don't think I've seen one on this server
2020-02-22 02:42:56 UTC
if only **THE ONE WHO SHAL NOT BE NAMED** used the Steelman technique this would have never happened
2020-02-22 06:47:11 UTC
@Ethreen42 Simple, Indians and Bangladeshis start killing each other in the streets, and the Poles may just be smart enough to boot them the fuck out when it happens. We shall see. In any case, their political class betrayed the common man by importing subpar people to replace them and drive down wages. I hear the Poles are opposed to LGBT and communism, which makes it more likely that they will also oppose this at some point.
2020-02-22 06:51:30 UTC
@SkeF Conversely, some communities suffer from all of the faux-intellectualism. It's one thing to ba a hillbilly who thinks the Earth is flat (anti-intellectual; smart people are wrong), it's quite another to be a college student who thinks there is no biological sex (faux-intellectual; I am smart, and you are wrong).
2020-02-22 06:51:54 UTC
What's the difference?
2020-02-22 06:52:02 UTC
@Windleaf What is steelman technique?
2020-02-22 06:52:29 UTC
@Jake the Exile Level of pretentiousness, mostly.
2020-02-22 06:53:26 UTC
Both believe they have special knowledge that others don't and they got it from a higher source.
2020-02-22 06:53:42 UTC
In one case, you explicitly reject intellectualism, while in the other, you reject it by substituting it with your own retarded thing (in the case of commies, it's their gender theory bullshit.
2020-02-22 06:54:12 UTC
How is flat-earth not rejecting common sense and replacing it with something else
2020-02-22 06:54:33 UTC
Aren't they exactly the same
2020-02-22 06:54:38 UTC
maybe the flat earth is a bad example
2020-02-22 06:55:38 UTC
but how many academic papers does the Flat earth theory have, and how many does Gender theory and LGBT studies have?
2020-02-22 06:56:29 UTC
Flat earth is not part of academia, destroying your kids with transgenderism is.
2020-02-22 06:56:45 UTC
Maybe that is the real divide here.
2020-02-22 07:21:40 UTC
"I hear the Poles are opposed to LGBT" not as much as they were 20 years ago, I fully expect Poland to be as progressive as Ireland in 40 years if nothing happens @Goddess Tyche
2020-02-22 07:24:12 UTC
Maybe we should ask a Pole about his opinion.
