Reports from the time said he actually won the primaries but in a closed door meeting Hillary was anointed the chosen one. Peoples support does not matter to the Dems, it's the illusion of choice. The DNC lawsuit, they argued that they could pick the nominee from a smoke filled room and just ignore votes. It's in court documents somewhere.
