2019-06-20 17:50:46 UTC

Yes @Oboe

2019-06-20 17:50:48 UTC

current ~~pope~~

2019-06-20 17:50:49 UTC

Example

2019-06-20 17:50:52 UTC

Arius

2019-06-20 17:50:56 UTC

Yes, many

2019-06-20 17:51:13 UTC

Men are fallible

2019-06-20 17:51:29 UTC

Men are fallible but the Holy Spirit is not

2019-06-20 17:51:39 UTC

And these people having the lineage to the apostles should be justified through their authority to define doctrine?

2019-06-20 17:51:57 UTC

They can define doctrine in a very limited sense.

2019-06-20 17:52:03 UTC

*very* limited

2019-06-20 17:52:21 UTC

But if they used that authority to contradict scripture is nullified?

2019-06-20 17:52:25 UTC

Can anyone define doctrine who isnt of the historical lineage?

2019-06-20 17:52:54 UTC

Not really, like they can, but it wouldn't be as reliable

2019-06-20 17:53:09 UTC

Of course we have layman biblical scholars and everything

2019-06-20 17:53:11 UTC

They canโ€™t contradict any of three things. A. Sacred Scripture B. Sacred Tradition C. Sacred Magisterium

2019-06-20 17:53:24 UTC

But that's not the same as the teaching authority of the Church defining a doctrine

2019-06-20 17:54:40 UTC

Now, I know this may be a bit difficult but do you have any sources that proves absolutely that either an apostle or a disciple of an apostle believed in doctrine such as infant baptism, the veneration of saints, or a literal interpretation of the bread and blood?

2019-06-20 17:55:10 UTC

Not necessary

2019-06-20 17:55:41 UTC

Is that a no?

2019-06-20 17:55:48 UTC

Did I say no?

2019-06-20 17:55:55 UTC

You didn't give a direct answer

2019-06-20 17:56:06 UTC

I was asking if you had it

2019-06-20 17:56:50 UTC

brb

2019-06-20 17:57:10 UTC

back

2019-06-20 17:57:13 UTC

My answer is that itโ€™s not relevant. I can provide sources that the college of bishops, as the direct successors to the apostles, have defined dogmatically the real presence of the Eucharist. And have authorized and recommended both infant baptism and veneration of saints

2019-06-20 17:57:40 UTC

My issue is whether we confirm that these traditions are truly apostolic

2019-06-20 17:57:56 UTC

I answer yes

2019-06-20 17:58:06 UTC

And what source would you cite?

2019-06-20 17:58:12 UTC

Veneration of saints wasnโ€™t because *there werenโ€™t any at the time*

2019-06-20 17:58:24 UTC

Irenaeus knew John the Apostle and also met I think James the Greater

2019-06-20 17:58:33 UTC

Oh btw

2019-06-20 17:58:36 UTC

Regardless of view

2019-06-20 17:58:53 UTC

I think we can appreciate this

2019-06-20 17:59:54 UTC

muh female minister of communion

2019-06-20 18:00:04 UTC

Itโ€™s an angel, fuck off

2019-06-20 18:01:15 UTC

You wouldn't happen to have something that documents Irenaeus and John's relations would you?

2019-06-20 18:02:34 UTC

OOF, I'm sorry, no, Irenaeus was Polycarp's student and *Polycarp* knew John

2019-06-20 18:02:45 UTC

He mentions that in these two

2019-06-20 18:04:40 UTC

Oh Spy

2019-06-20 18:04:41 UTC

So

2019-06-20 18:04:57 UTC

I have a study bible coming in the mail today ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Thank you

2019-06-20 18:05:22 UTC

2019-06-20 18:05:28 UTC

2019-06-20 18:07:23 UTC

I was torn between didache and ignatius

2019-06-20 18:08:00 UTC

The Didache isn't that long tbh

2019-06-20 18:09:41 UTC

Neither is my understanding of scripture Yeet

2019-06-20 18:10:11 UTC

If I ever get another, ignatius or Navarre is what imma do

2019-06-21 18:53:00 UTC

<@&588707615643795456> Daily Question ๐Ÿ”–

- What is your view on purgatory? What happens immediately after our death?

2019-06-21 18:58:38 UTC

After death, you are judged (your *particular judgement*) and most of those destined for Heaven will be purged.

2019-06-21 19:00:15 UTC

Wdym by the second half of that sentence

2019-06-21 19:00:19 UTC

I don't believe in purgatory

2019-06-21 19:00:39 UTC

If you're destroyed for heaven... That means the end result of u in heaven

2019-06-21 19:00:44 UTC

@GHOST aye me neither

2019-06-21 19:01:05 UTC

Purged of their sins, that is, not annihilated from existence.

2019-06-21 19:01:16 UTC

Its either heaven or hell, no in between

2019-06-21 19:01:48 UTC

@GHOST well I'm fairly certain no one goes to hell

2019-06-21 19:02:07 UTC

@Deleted User.........

2019-06-21 19:02:10 UTC

Hell and lake of fire are separate places this is iterated multiple times Im fairly certain

2019-06-21 19:02:27 UTC

The Bible mentions that *hell will be thrown into the lake of fire*

2019-06-21 19:02:42 UTC

But muh weeping and nashing of teeth ?

2019-06-21 19:02:56 UTC

Hell itself probably isn't on fire, that depiction of hell is fairly modern coming from Dante's inferno

2019-06-21 19:04:05 UTC

@GHOST I don't remember reading that, but sure

2019-06-21 19:04:13 UTC

You're probably sent to lake of fire, not hell

2019-06-21 19:04:14 UTC

Really ?

2019-06-21 19:04:32 UTC

Because lake of fire is the end place

2019-06-21 19:04:35 UTC

Not hell

2019-06-21 19:04:43 UTC

Hell is thrown into lake of fire

2019-06-21 19:04:52 UTC

The lake of fire is where satan will be held at the end of days

2019-06-21 19:04:54 UTC

As far as I know, "hell" is the dark place where souls destined for damnation await until the day of final judgement.

2019-06-21 19:04:54 UTC

For sinners that is

2019-06-21 19:05:15 UTC

@GHOST and where all non-believers go

2019-06-21 19:05:22 UTC

And everyone who isn't in heaven really

2019-06-21 19:05:34 UTC

Yeah basically

2019-06-21 19:05:35 UTC

Once the new heaven and new earth are made that is where the saved shall live and the lake of fire is where the damned shall go

2019-06-21 19:05:38 UTC

Iirc

2019-06-21 19:05:57 UTC

I wonder if those in heaven will be able to see the lake of fire

2019-06-21 19:06:32 UTC

We call that limbo. The place of non-believers who lived good lives

2019-06-21 19:06:43 UTC

But thatโ€™s not doctrine

2019-06-21 19:07:02 UTC

Non believers who lived good lives get the same treatment as serial killers

2019-06-21 19:07:05 UTC

The lake of fire

2019-06-21 19:07:22 UTC

I highly doubt that

2019-06-21 19:07:47 UTC

As far as I know there is no "in between" of heaven and lake of fire once the end times are complete

2019-06-21 19:07:58 UTC

You're either in heaven, or in the lake of fire

2019-06-21 19:08:21 UTC

Generally based on NDE's it seems we go to heaven, god doesnt seem to be wrathful at all

2019-06-21 19:08:24 UTC

There *could* be a "limbo" temporarily until final judgment day, but at the end you're either burning or not

2019-06-21 19:08:34 UTC

Basically this

2019-06-21 19:08:45 UTC

because the Last Judgement is the last judgement

2019-06-21 19:09:02 UTC

As far as I know, thereโ€™s 3 to 5 states you can be in. And I see no reason for that to change after the general judgement

2019-06-21 19:09:17 UTC

Wdym 3 to 5 stages what

2019-06-21 19:09:20 UTC

There are only 2

2019-06-21 19:09:29 UTC

You're either in heaven

2019-06-21 19:09:33 UTC

Or in the lake of fire

2019-06-21 19:09:39 UTC

Heaven, purgatory, hell, and then maybe 1 or 2 limbos. I personally believe in 1 limbo

2019-06-21 19:09:58 UTC

Is there any biblical text expressly mentioning Limbo

2019-06-21 19:09:59 UTC

Well, all those in Purgatory at the end of time are purified and let out anyhow
