MOORHEAD, Minn. โ Rep. Keith Ellison stopped by Moorhead for a town hall event in his campaign for Minnesotaโs Attorney General.
Ellison is also the Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee. He says he hopes the DNC will be more focused on listening to the people.
As AG, he says he wants to take on many issues from economic fairness to the fight against opioids.
โIn Congress we can propose legislation. Maybe itโll get passed, maybe it wonโt, but in the Minnesota Attorney Generalโs office, if somebody says thereโs a problem going on in our community, consumers arenโt being treated right, citizens arenโt being treated right, people arenโt being treated fairly, you can do something about it, fairly directly,โ Ellison said.
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders gave Ellison his endorsement today. Other candidates running in the democratic primary include DFL-endorsed Attorney Matt Pelikan and State Representative Debra Hilstrom.

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (The Gazette) - El Paso County prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty against the alleged shooters in the gang-related killings of two Coronado High School students.
The 4th Judicial District Attorneyโs Office filed the required notices Friday in the first-degree murder cases against Diego Carlos Chacon, 20, and Marco Garcia-Bravo, 21, The Gazette has confirmed. They are accused of taking turns pulling the trigger in the March 2017 execution-style shootings of Derek Greer, 15, and Natalie Cano-Partida, 16.
Prosecutors are expected to discuss their plans during hearings Monday before District Judge Larry E. Schwartz.
The filings comes days after a jury threw out the death penalty against double-murderer Glen Law Galloway in El Paso Countyโs first capital case in a decade.
In the case of Galloway, 46, lead prosecutor Reggy Short said the office chose to pursue death because of Gallowayโs long history of flouting the law. That included going into hiding after a stalking conviction only to fatally shoot the victim, his ex-girlfriend Janice Nam, and a second person, Marcus Anderson, on consecutive days in May 2016.
The basis for pursuing the deaths of Chacon and Garcia-Bravo wasnโt immediately clear. The lead prosecutor, Jim Bentley, couldnโt be reached for comment.
Colorado law lays out 17 statutory aggravators that make murderers eligible for capital punishment, and requires that prosecutors prove at least one.
At least two could apply in the teensโ slayings. One is the intentional killing of a person who was abducted by the defendants. The other is the allegation that the defendants were โparty to an agreement to kill another personโ that resulted in deaths.
Authorities say Greer and Cano-Partida were abducted at gunpoint in Colorado Springs and later killed over suspicions that Cano-Partida had provided information to gang rivals.
Ten people were arrested in the shocking crime, five of them charged with murder. Three of the murder suspects have since pleaded guilty to lesser charges under agreements that secure their testimony in court.
After a harrowing drive with their captors, Greer and Cano-Partida were forced at gunpoint into โexecution positionโ and shot at close range on Old Pueblo Road near Fountain.
Chacon is alleged to have shot Cano-Partida first, before handing his pistol to Garcia-Bravo, who is accused of shooting Greer.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo told reporters on Thursday he will not return decade-old donations from Donald Trump, but will continue to criticize his policies.
"No, not at all," Cuomo said. "Iโm going to be deeply critical of him and keep the contributions."
The issue was raised earlier in the day by the campaign of his rival for the Democratic nomination, Cynthia Nixon, who has released a fundraising appeal and a Facebook ad highlighting the issue.
Trump last gave to Cuomo in 2009, when he was the New York attorney general. Ivanka Trump, the presidentโs daughter, gave Cuomo $8,500 in 2011, his first year as governor.
Trump had been a frequent donor to Democrats during his days as a real estate mogul and reality TV show star based in New York City.
In the fundraising appeal, Nixon linked the donations to a broader theme of her campaign.
"Why? Because Trump knew that Andrew Cuomo was his best chance to retain the status quo in New York; so real estate developers and hedge fund managers could keep buying political influence and Cuomoโs corporate donors could avoid paying their fair share to fully fund our public schools," the email states.
