I was going to guess SEA
i fukkin love filipino weapons ngl
that or africa
Yeah they have some really unique ones
this is now pre-firearms chat
Theres quite the variety in melee weapons in SEA for some reason
Some areas just seemed to experiment more. Like india for example
well there''s a pretty big variety just about everywhere really
except the japs, who could only ever figure out 2 melee weapon designs
I mean its them making the most out of their meagre iron deposits
Hey, they had katanas, big katanas, small katanas, katanas on sticks... the list could go on!
Like, bladed, and spears?
That was it.
i really dislike japanese melee weapons, to the surprise of everyone i've ever met
They definitely have a certain elegance to them, but aside from gimmick weapons like kusarigama they really don't have much variety
I think they are overrated. But in their context, it was the best they could do
And I think they did a good job at that
They Ainu people had some interesting sword designs
yeah i'll give them that the design of the katana was effective for the materials they had
I think its reflective of their entire culture. Low metal deposits and quality meant having to make the most out of little.
Isolated nation, meant that they could count on almost everyone using the same designs.
Yeah, they didn't have much as far as resources go, but I think it's mainly their isolationism and traditionalism that led to their stagnant designs
So it became a skill competition, not a tech one
and a 'why fix what isn't broke' situation
It's very weird that shields weren't ever really used by the lesser armored troops though
Unless you go back to pre-nippon 'japan'
shields were weirdly unpopular in asia
Thats what their armor was for. The only thing they needed shields were against archers.
compared to europe at least
Also the tsuba fucking sucks for hand protection. A simple crossguard adds so much more hand protection than you'd expect
But since, when it came to melee, you want the greater advantage when it comes to weapon handling.
goddamn I fucking love ebay
Shields kinda interfered with taht
katanas being 2 handed weapons kinda makes using a shield difficult tho
Yeah, but most would be using Yari
You need 2 hands to cut with it properly
Not everyone was a Samurai with heavy armor
yeah but JDM you have to consider the possibility that you may get a plastic toy instead
Its a damn expensive plastic toy
not when the seller feed back is 40K +
5 star
plus paypal buyer protection
oh true
Ebays pretty reputable right?
25K positive

@GingaBomber yes buy from stores with good rep you'll be fine
Damn it, and Im living in backwards SEA drooling over the stuff Americans can do.
even then, paypal buyer protection is pretty insane
can't hear you

Anyone here watch Firepower United? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4W5cXaFL2M
Silly malasian guns
What the fuck are those
people who live in Malaysia
ok
all done
time to clean up for a pic
Guns, what guns? What are these melei guns you speak of?
Guns are the great equalizer, which basically means communism. Swords are where it's at :^)
But for real guns did a lot for bringing equality to the world. Before guns power was controlled by the wealthy, because armor was so damn expensive+effective. Only the rich could afford it, and afford to arm troops with it. After guns became a viable option even a peasant could be a threat to the knightly class.
I need a bunch of 10/30's
I don't have any
loading the 10's is not easy
Oh shit we got a Gun Talk
Cool shit
Approved
Anyone ever check out those .22 PPS50s?
nope
I'm not really a .22lr fan
I think it's good for three things
1) Training people who have no idea wtf a gun is or how it works
2) Handgun practice, reproduction models in 22lr are EXCELLENT for this purpose
3) 100-250 yard target shooting, especially in variable wind conditions
ideally with a bolt action but it honestly doesn't matter
I only have a savage FVSR
the rest are gone
it's pretty cheap to shoot I just don't get why anyone would
Maybe chase after a 9mm carbine
Don't get me wrong, I just think it'd be a blast to inexpensively shoot with a fifty round plinker

Woo

Anyone got news on the Railgun that i think MIT or DARPA is working on?
Shelved last I heard, but they aren't scrapping it.
I mean, last I heard its still too heavy for infantry use. Still probably a cheaper replacement for dealing with missiles or mortar fire.
it won't be too heavy in microgravity, which means the SPACE FORCE WILL HAVE RAILGUNS
