they never want to make anything new, just destroy was already here

2018-03-05 02:13:08 UTC

Or change something that already exists.

2018-03-05 02:13:13 UTC

but if we agree it is stupid, why are you going along with it?

2018-03-05 02:13:40 UTC

It's just talking to someone on their terms/for the sake of argument.

2018-03-05 02:13:44 UTC

To learn more.

sjw: "comics are sexist"
random: "make your own comics then"
sjw: "NO! NO SEXIST COMICS ARE ALLOWED"
*changes everything, killing comics*
sjw: "ah, much better"

2018-03-05 02:14:47 UTC

@JadenFrostwolf we weren't all here entertaining the idea, some ppl here really think we should redefine gender

2018-03-05 02:15:00 UTC

No, I know.

2018-03-05 02:16:08 UTC

@.B because in order to have any kind of constructive conversation, you need to work from a common vocabulary. And its much easier to destroy a persons argument if you use their vocabulary against them rather than try and get them to use your own.

2018-03-05 02:16:16 UTC

Probably the most annoying thing is that in a lot of cases, they're not even fans of or consumers of the thing they are trying to change.
Like I think it's safe to say the vast majority of the people crying for Nintendo to change "Link" from the Legend of Zelda series into a girl, because... reasons....
...would not have even bought the game, or cared about how it would have affected the story.

2018-03-05 02:16:39 UTC

@Grenade123 I agree, isn't that what we just did? =p

2018-03-05 02:16:56 UTC

you are the one who asked why i was going along with it

2018-03-05 02:17:23 UTC

gf just sent me a jumpscare

2018-03-05 02:17:35 UTC

@JadenFrostwolf I've heard a lot of people saying Zelda should be genderbent into a girl ๐Ÿ˜

2018-03-05 02:17:43 UTC

ive been reading

2018-03-05 02:17:46 UTC

<:yey:414288771824091137>

2018-03-05 02:17:51 UTC

coz all video games have males in the titles

2018-03-05 02:17:54 UTC

rightttttt?

2018-03-05 02:18:16 UTC

Zelda is already a girl....?

2018-03-05 02:18:19 UTC

you mean Link?

2018-03-05 02:18:23 UTC

That's the joke.

2018-03-05 02:18:45 UTC

that's the point, they thought Link was Zelda. They didn't even know the franchise ๐Ÿ˜‚

2018-03-05 02:18:54 UTC

People that know nothing of the game often call the character you play Zelda, since the game is called Zelda.

2018-03-05 02:19:20 UTC

name an SJW that demands a franchise be changed that actually likes the franchise.

2018-03-05 02:20:04 UTC

*cough* anita sarkeesian *cough*

2018-03-05 02:20:47 UTC

"I've always been a gamer" *rewind less than 10 years* "I'm not a gamer and have never played games"

2018-03-05 02:21:21 UTC

one redefinition of a word that "triggers" me is the word "gamer"

2018-03-05 02:21:32 UTC

you play sudoku or candy crush? YOU'R A GAMER

2018-03-05 02:21:42 UTC

I thought gamers were dead. <:Kappa:327142715592540171>

2018-03-05 02:21:55 UTC

western games are kinda dead ๐Ÿค”

2018-03-05 02:21:59 UTC

fuck, find me the gamer player sudoku, they are probably not too dumb.

2018-03-05 02:23:31 UTC

so to reiterate my thoughts, sex defines biological differences of a species that store the method of reproducing a new lifeform of their species into 2 or more entities. this covers everything that empericly we can catagorize about them which are internally consistant. this means most physical traits and some psychological traits. gender has NO reason to define this, as theres no reason to have 2 words that mean the same thing. if you were to give gender a different definition scientificly, in my opinion it would need to define the social and psychological differences between individuals of different sexs

2018-03-05 02:24:57 UTC

I kinda told you why "gender" was used

2018-03-05 02:25:14 UTC

because in most languages "sex" is also a verb of the act

2018-03-05 02:25:31 UTC

thats a weak arguement

2018-03-05 02:25:45 UTC

in most languages the same word means different things

2018-03-05 02:25:52 UTC

so to avoid confusion, "gender" was another way of refering to it that was clear to understand what you're asking

2018-03-05 02:25:59 UTC

so gender so as to not pull an austin powers? *filling out form* "Sex? Yes please."

2018-03-05 02:26:19 UTC

yes, I believe that is the main reason

2018-03-05 02:26:36 UTC

not to mention sex is only an english word, in other languages the act of having sex is a different word

2018-03-05 02:26:52 UTC

in my native language the same happens

2018-03-05 02:26:55 UTC

in spanish too

2018-03-05 02:26:58 UTC

in french too

2018-03-05 02:27:00 UTC

gender: "late Middle English: from Old French gendre (modern genre ), based on Latin genus โ€˜birth, family, nation.โ€™ The earliest meanings were โ€˜kind, sort, genusโ€™ and โ€˜type or class of noun, etc."

2018-03-05 02:27:14 UTC

I could do some research on it tbh

2018-03-05 02:27:20 UTC

i dont think the chinese call the act of reproduction sex

2018-03-05 02:27:29 UTC

consitering they have no latin roots

2018-03-05 02:27:37 UTC

we are talking about the west

2018-03-05 02:27:44 UTC

so not most languages

2018-03-05 02:27:56 UTC

the Chinese have 5 different words using the same 3 letters

2018-03-05 02:27:56 UTC

in the same order

2018-03-05 02:27:57 UTC

if you go to asian countries, there's not even pronouns

2018-03-05 02:28:02 UTC

kanjis are gendered

2018-03-05 02:28:18 UTC

let's not dig a bigger hole into this

2018-03-05 02:29:07 UTC

really i think only spanish has a word close to sex

2018-03-05 02:29:10 UTC

sexo

2018-03-05 02:29:14 UTC

what feminists are trying to do, removing gendered names of things can't even be done in most asian languages

2018-03-05 02:29:21 UTC

italians use sesso

2018-03-05 02:29:24 UTC

replace gender on all forms with "chromo" and have it be Y/X

2018-03-05 02:29:26 UTC

portuguese too

2018-03-05 02:29:37 UTC

well french use sexe

2018-03-05 02:30:14 UTC

good luck trying to fix German if they are trying to make it "gender neutral"

2018-03-05 02:30:20 UTC

even then though latin languages are also the most common languages to have a word with multiple definitions

2018-03-05 02:30:35 UTC

and have those words transfer from verb to noun

2018-03-05 02:31:03 UTC

also boats have genders apparently

2018-03-05 02:31:06 UTC

but not sex

2018-03-05 02:31:09 UTC

@Arch-Fiend is there no other language in which there is multiple words that mean the same thing?

2018-03-05 02:31:21 UTC

yes there are

2018-03-05 02:31:23 UTC

i think most languages do grenade

2018-03-05 02:31:51 UTC

which is why "they use gender insted of sex because sex can also be a verb" is a weak argument

2018-03-05 02:32:14 UTC

asking for the "sex" is also informal

2018-03-05 02:32:15 UTC

its also not how science works

2018-03-05 02:32:25 UTC

asking "gender" is considered the formal way of asking it

2018-03-05 02:32:30 UTC

language has nothing to do with science

2018-03-05 02:32:34 UTC

this is language, not science

2018-03-05 02:32:56 UTC

perhaps you shouldent have been arguing that gender is a scientific word earlier then

2018-03-05 02:33:01 UTC

most languages follow irrational evolutions

2018-03-05 02:33:08 UTC

pretty sure science usually refers to things officially by sex, unofficially by whatever is common colloquial language

2018-03-05 02:33:16 UTC

because the verb for sex in science is reproduction

2018-03-05 02:33:24 UTC

or compitulation

2018-03-05 02:33:28 UTC

or insemination

2018-03-05 02:33:35 UTC

you misrepresent his statements

2018-03-05 02:33:55 UTC

gender has, in colloquial English, be the same as biological sex.

2018-03-05 02:34:11 UTC

then i can easly say it doesent exist

2018-03-05 02:34:15 UTC

that does not mean biological sex is called gender in science

2018-03-05 02:34:19 UTC

and just use a different language

2018-03-05 02:34:20 UTC

aren't you contributing to my point? if you say "sex" you assume the act, if you say "gender" you assume the binary definition which can _also_ be defined as "sex"

2018-03-05 02:34:22 UTC

well, no words exists

2018-03-05 02:34:48 UTC

all words are socially constructed

2018-03-05 02:34:56 UTC

yes.. so?

2018-03-05 02:35:10 UTC

"socially constructed" says nothing

2018-03-05 02:35:18 UTC

so, then saying it doesn't exist because its not science, but language, is not really a good argument

2018-03-05 02:35:20 UTC

everything is socially constructed

2018-03-05 02:35:51 UTC

its not useful to me to have gender and sex mean the same thing because you will have people argue that gender means whatever they want it to mean while sex will never be touched, sex will simply be replaced and ultimately youll lose the argument in the long run

2018-03-05 02:36:12 UTC

the other way around

2018-03-05 02:36:15 UTC

>to me

that is not an argument, but a preference

2018-03-05 02:36:16 UTC

i rather maintain concrete, historicaly fortuitious language which i can argue my points with

2018-03-05 02:36:33 UTC

which is fine to have, but does not mean it will apply to anyone else

2018-03-05 02:36:35 UTC

if gender becomes volatile and not useful, people will just use "sex"
