they never want to make anything new, just destroy was already here
Or change something that already exists.
but if we agree it is stupid, why are you going along with it?
It's just talking to someone on their terms/for the sake of argument.
To learn more.
sjw: "comics are sexist"
random: "make your own comics then"
sjw: "NO! NO SEXIST COMICS ARE ALLOWED"
*changes everything, killing comics*
sjw: "ah, much better"
@JadenFrostwolf we weren't all here entertaining the idea, some ppl here really think we should redefine gender
No, I know.
@.B because in order to have any kind of constructive conversation, you need to work from a common vocabulary. And its much easier to destroy a persons argument if you use their vocabulary against them rather than try and get them to use your own.
Probably the most annoying thing is that in a lot of cases, they're not even fans of or consumers of the thing they are trying to change.
Like I think it's safe to say the vast majority of the people crying for Nintendo to change "Link" from the Legend of Zelda series into a girl, because... reasons....
...would not have even bought the game, or cared about how it would have affected the story.
@Grenade123 I agree, isn't that what we just did? =p
you are the one who asked why i was going along with it
gf just sent me a jumpscare
@JadenFrostwolf I've heard a lot of people saying Zelda should be genderbent into a girl ๐
ive been reading
<:yey:414288771824091137>
coz all video games have males in the titles
rightttttt?
Zelda is already a girl....?
you mean Link?
That's the joke.
that's the point, they thought Link was Zelda. They didn't even know the franchise ๐
People that know nothing of the game often call the character you play Zelda, since the game is called Zelda.
name an SJW that demands a franchise be changed that actually likes the franchise.
*cough* anita sarkeesian *cough*
"I've always been a gamer" *rewind less than 10 years* "I'm not a gamer and have never played games"
one redefinition of a word that "triggers" me is the word "gamer"
you play sudoku or candy crush? YOU'R A GAMER
I thought gamers were dead. <:Kappa:327142715592540171>
western games are kinda dead ๐ค
fuck, find me the gamer player sudoku, they are probably not too dumb.
so to reiterate my thoughts, sex defines biological differences of a species that store the method of reproducing a new lifeform of their species into 2 or more entities. this covers everything that empericly we can catagorize about them which are internally consistant. this means most physical traits and some psychological traits. gender has NO reason to define this, as theres no reason to have 2 words that mean the same thing. if you were to give gender a different definition scientificly, in my opinion it would need to define the social and psychological differences between individuals of different sexs
I kinda told you why "gender" was used
because in most languages "sex" is also a verb of the act
thats a weak arguement
in most languages the same word means different things
so to avoid confusion, "gender" was another way of refering to it that was clear to understand what you're asking
so gender so as to not pull an austin powers? *filling out form* "Sex? Yes please."
yes, I believe that is the main reason
not to mention sex is only an english word, in other languages the act of having sex is a different word
in my native language the same happens
in spanish too
in french too
gender: "late Middle English: from Old French gendre (modern genre ), based on Latin genus โbirth, family, nation.โ The earliest meanings were โkind, sort, genusโ and โtype or class of noun, etc."
I could do some research on it tbh
i dont think the chinese call the act of reproduction sex
consitering they have no latin roots
we are talking about the west
so not most languages
the Chinese have 5 different words using the same 3 letters
in the same order
if you go to asian countries, there's not even pronouns
kanjis are gendered
let's not dig a bigger hole into this
really i think only spanish has a word close to sex
sexo
what feminists are trying to do, removing gendered names of things can't even be done in most asian languages
italians use sesso
replace gender on all forms with "chromo" and have it be Y/X
portuguese too
well french use sexe
good luck trying to fix German if they are trying to make it "gender neutral"
even then though latin languages are also the most common languages to have a word with multiple definitions
and have those words transfer from verb to noun
also boats have genders apparently
but not sex
@Arch-Fiend is there no other language in which there is multiple words that mean the same thing?
yes there are
i think most languages do grenade
which is why "they use gender insted of sex because sex can also be a verb" is a weak argument
asking for the "sex" is also informal
its also not how science works
asking "gender" is considered the formal way of asking it
language has nothing to do with science
this is language, not science
perhaps you shouldent have been arguing that gender is a scientific word earlier then
most languages follow irrational evolutions
pretty sure science usually refers to things officially by sex, unofficially by whatever is common colloquial language
because the verb for sex in science is reproduction
or compitulation
or insemination
you misrepresent his statements
gender has, in colloquial English, be the same as biological sex.
then i can easly say it doesent exist
that does not mean biological sex is called gender in science
and just use a different language
aren't you contributing to my point? if you say "sex" you assume the act, if you say "gender" you assume the binary definition which can _also_ be defined as "sex"
well, no words exists
all words are socially constructed
yes.. so?
"socially constructed" says nothing
so, then saying it doesn't exist because its not science, but language, is not really a good argument
everything is socially constructed
its not useful to me to have gender and sex mean the same thing because you will have people argue that gender means whatever they want it to mean while sex will never be touched, sex will simply be replaced and ultimately youll lose the argument in the long run
the other way around
>to me
that is not an argument, but a preference
i rather maintain concrete, historicaly fortuitious language which i can argue my points with
which is fine to have, but does not mean it will apply to anyone else
if gender becomes volatile and not useful, people will just use "sex"
