2018-02-14 01:39:46 UTC

shall I post more to help uncover this mystery?

2018-02-14 01:39:54 UTC

Also, I have the stomach flu so Id rather not imagine the discomfort.

2018-02-14 01:49:02 UTC

I think the weakness of civic nationalism is that it is weak to outside cultural influences, which is ironically supposed to be what it's strength is. I prefer the nationalist state to an ethnostate, don't get me wrong, but we do have to acknowledge the flaws in civic nationalism.

2018-02-14 01:49:32 UTC

elaborate.

2018-02-14 01:50:08 UTC

"weak to outside cultural influences" this 'weakness' could be defined two different ways depending on which side you're on.

2018-02-14 01:51:52 UTC

Well, for instance, this issue Europe has with mass migration. The idea behind civic nationalism is that anyone coming into the country in question adopts it's values and traditions, or at least celebrates them, but what do you do with large groups of people coming into your country that won't 'play ball', so to speak? Civic nationalism is great, as long as everyone agrees to the conditions of it, but when large groups of people are coming into your country that don't agree to these conditions, I think eventually it will dissolve the state over time.

2018-02-14 01:52:34 UTC

this is true

2018-02-14 01:52:44 UTC

Agreed mostly

2018-02-14 01:52:54 UTC

but mass immigration isn't a product of civic nationalism

2018-02-14 01:53:04 UTC

And I admit, this is mostly an issue with mass uncontrolled migration in the first place, more than anything else.

2018-02-14 01:53:25 UTC

I think I was just pointing out that this wouldn't happen in an ethnostate, although it does come with it's own problems, yeah.

2018-02-14 01:53:32 UTC

weren't you a wolf before

2018-02-14 01:54:04 UTC

wat

2018-02-14 01:54:09 UTC

Geh, yes, indeed I was.

2018-02-14 01:54:23 UTC

otherkin

2018-02-14 01:54:53 UTC

Nid, I was simply bored.

2018-02-14 01:55:22 UTC

It's one point on which me and an ethnonat agree

2018-02-14 01:56:18 UTC

But furthermore it's a counterpoint to your statement, Civic Nationalism would not allow for mass immigration

2018-02-14 01:56:18 UTC

One issue with an ethnostate, especially when it comes to smaller countries, are concerns of genetic diversity.

2018-02-14 01:56:42 UTC

In much the same way an ethnonat would defend teh core of their race

2018-02-14 01:56:48 UTC

Not inherently, I suppose, but it is what is being allowed right now by many western countries.

2018-02-14 01:56:49 UTC

a civic nationalist would defend the core of their nation

2018-02-14 01:57:23 UTC

Nationalism as a whole has been given a dirty name over the past couple of decades, which I think is one of the core problems, yeah.

2018-02-14 01:57:53 UTC

Globalism is the opponent of nationalism, and the dominant force.

2018-02-14 01:58:30 UTC

I think globalism, like communism, is an eventuality, but we're just not there yet or even anywhere close to it.

2018-02-14 01:58:44 UTC

lel

2018-02-14 01:59:06 UTC

I came in the middle of the conversation, but, are you serious?

2018-02-14 01:59:12 UTC

Yes.

2018-02-14 01:59:21 UTC

from my cold dead hands

2018-02-14 01:59:23 UTC

Communism simply does not work for humans.

2018-02-14 01:59:36 UTC

It would have to be forced

2018-02-14 01:59:38 UTC

I think a globalist structure COULD exist with nations remaining independent.

2018-02-14 01:59:42 UTC

There will come a point where our quality of life will be so great that we won't even need money, but again, this is *way* into the future.

2018-02-14 01:59:54 UTC

But any true globalism would be too authoritarian, or it would not function.

2018-02-14 02:00:27 UTC

Another point Ethnonats get is that, western society can't go into a non-western nation and fix that nation.

2018-02-14 02:00:43 UTC

That nation has to change from within.

2018-02-14 02:00:50 UTC

^ ^ ^

2018-02-14 02:01:06 UTC

It's the whole "giving a man a fish vs teaching a man to fish" thing.

2018-02-14 02:01:07 UTC

Western Society developed where it did, I would challenge, not as a result of race, but as a result of trade.

2018-02-14 02:01:38 UTC

>There will come a point where our quality of life will be so great that we won't even need money, but again, this is way into the future.
If there is no money, there will be no freedom

2018-02-14 02:02:01 UTC

I'm inclined to agree.

2018-02-14 02:02:04 UTC

if you are implying a world without freedom, it is possible

2018-02-14 02:02:16 UTC

If we fall to a one world government

2018-02-14 02:02:20 UTC

Are the two really so intrinsically linked?

2018-02-14 02:02:20 UTC

I just don't see it lasting very long

2018-02-14 02:02:21 UTC

there would be no competition.

2018-02-14 02:02:39 UTC

Either that, or we'd fall to intense corporatism, and that's pretty scary, too.

2018-02-14 02:02:46 UTC

(not that we don't already have that)

2018-02-14 02:03:19 UTC

Nations should be able to compete.

2018-02-14 02:03:34 UTC

Hell, I think the states in the US should be more in competition with one another

2018-02-14 02:03:44 UTC

That's how the best ideas come forward.

2018-02-14 02:03:57 UTC

all hail the free market

2018-02-14 02:04:08 UTC

On a city level, on a state level, on a global level, that's where the way forward exists.

2018-02-14 02:04:09 UTC

I know it's a bit of a utopian idea, but what do we do as the quality of life rises to the point where we don't even have to work in a lot of ways? Many jobs are falling into automation, and it's only going to get worse, to the point where even *now* we're whispering about UBI.

2018-02-14 02:04:18 UTC

I totally agree with @RyeNorth on this

2018-02-14 02:04:31 UTC

competition is essential. It's simple darwinism

2018-02-14 02:04:48 UTC

I said in this chat before about some talk about California. Let them do whatever they want and let bad ideas fail

2018-02-14 02:05:16 UTC

And the federal government should exist to protect the people, but not the individual state.

2018-02-14 02:05:21 UTC

I think UBI is inevitable, but I don't think that means communism

2018-02-14 02:05:28 UTC

If the state is going to fail, it needs to be able to.

2018-02-14 02:06:19 UTC

The perfect human society is one in which natural selection continues to refine the human race

2018-02-14 02:06:20 UTC

UBI might be the more realistic 'middleground' between communism and what we have now, I would agree. Don't get me wrong, I think the free market solves a lot of problems, and was only talking about where things could go into the far future.

2018-02-14 02:06:23 UTC

and to Jaden's point, even if we automate, unless we achieve singularity, people will still have jobs.

2018-02-14 02:06:59 UTC

And new jobs will come with new technologies, yeah.

2018-02-14 02:07:14 UTC

Or perhaps one in which humans are most capable of adapting to their surroundings

2018-02-14 02:09:07 UTC

In some socialist society how are people supposed to adapt if their existence is supported solely by the government?

2018-02-14 02:09:21 UTC

I just want IQ cleansing
