Gabs market is their issue
if I heard correctly
Gab will innovate I hope.
To get around this bullying.
I think Gab is shit, specially on the tech side. But I'm now kinda siding with them after what they did to them
Yes, its a free speech platform for all,
But if other platforms ban criminals/nazis/trolls/hatemongers etc
They'll automatically be drawn to the one that doesnt, and you'll get a permanent stain on your label
Cuz even if the people of gab don't like those people, they have to be allowed on for Gabs mission statement
and their competitors will gladly get rid of them for that
i mean it IS the issue
"If you don't like twitter, start your own twitter"
and when peopel do, it gets banned
so you can't have a free market
the problem is that if you embrace free speech, they will ALL, as a collective, label them as criminals/nazis/trolls/hatemongers
yes
thats what i said
you'll just get stained
If the first amendment if extended to the internet that might fix it?
this kinda makes me think we need some platforms that are more underground
For the US anyway
and to become bigger gradually
to the point of being too big to shutdown at that point
They will all be called nazi sites/groups if they are found out though @.B
they can't do it if they have millions of users
the narrative doesn't stand
I'm a dev, I'm tempted to start one tbh
A streaming site? or something else?
probably without streaming at first. There's no way to create a streaming site that is profitable
nowadays at least
they have some interesting documents up btw
https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1709244/000170924418000001/GAB_-_Annual_Report_-_2018.pdf
That's the problem with being open to anyone, yiu will end full of weirdos that no one else wants. Just ask the furries :D
> There's no way to create a streaming site that is profitable
nowadays at least
bittorrent had a peer to peer live streaming protocol that they scuttled when they failed to raise money
that p2p approach would reduce serving costs to the point that a streaming site could work
( and such a protocol could be re-created )
the issue with a streaming service like that is you need actual users to share, so a less popular video might be very slow while popular videos might be super fast
however you could use a server to make up for that offset
therefore having the benifits of both
@paradigm the problem is that most normies don't want the tradeoff that come with a P2P streaming service
and I mean a FULL P2P system
not what bitchute does
so essentially having it like, If video speed is under the required amount for that quality setting then use the server to make up for it, if the video passes the requirement then use P2P
the problem is that users can easily be hostile to it
what do you mean by "hostile"?
in this context
we are Screwed Blued and Tattooed
without going too much into detail. But if a site like that became popular, an addon that blocks seeding would be enough to ruin it
Eww ๐คข I just saw a Muslim woman got elected
I did some projects in Bittorrent
it is really easy to exploit it
Ilhan Omar
I assume bitchute leverages webtorrent with the webseed BEP in the torrents
no?
Rashida Tlaib
you just need to block uploading on webtorrent
America proud to embrace the Muslims
As their new overlord
how close are let's say torrents to a "full" P2P system?
they have chosen that requirement @.B
but storage and static torrent serving are dirt cheap
it's incredibly easy
bittorrent = p2p
one may fairly consider it a reference implementation
storage isn't cheap if you give free rights to every user to upload what they want
๐
did you ever pay for a server?
I have
it's expensive
even bandwidth is expensive af
sure @.B
so use IPFS and require people to supply their own master copy
bandwidth is cheap
yeah, for instance a back up server of mutliple TB's requires a fee when downloading it
bandwidth is cheap on residential contracts
not for servers
do tell
heh
make a simulation on it
go to amazon
and put 1 petabyte
don't pay retail at that rate
then add the costs for Cloudflare (which you will need)
negotiate a contract
1 peta is maybe a bit much
no?
4chan has more bandwidth usage per month than that
and they don't do video
will be under 2c / Gb
even if you are an incompetent negotiator
1 peta is nothing
that's 20000$ for 1 peta, per month alone
sure
and that is cheap
because of those prices I have decided to simply store everything myself, using a NAS and a backup located somewhere else
without costs for the servers, storage or loadbalancing
if you can't make 100k a month at that scale
then your business model is broken
out of what? ads?
that's up to you - this is your idea
I was the one that first stated that it was unprofitable
if you want to argue that it is
than say why/how
no free consulting
than why even start the discussion?
but if you don't have a model in the black at that scale,
then you don't have a good idea
