its a marketing strategy, caused by fear of shame

2018-11-07 12:35:08 UTC

@.B stick to that position.

2018-11-07 12:35:19 UTC

I think companies that do that will eventually die out in a free market, But in silicon valley they have created a sort of trust.

2018-11-07 12:35:23 UTC

The companies that go down this road are going to get hurt

2018-11-07 12:35:26 UTC

but I don't really have much of an answer to a bunch of companies in the market speaking among themselves and banning everyone they disagree with

2018-11-07 12:35:40 UTC

I mean its basically
"We're the company that loves everyone who is nice and god, and everyone should come here"

vs

"We're the company thats okay with nazis, everyone is free here"

2018-11-07 12:35:47 UTC

its Social media damage control

2018-11-07 12:35:49 UTC

I think so to, that the free market will take care of it

2018-11-07 12:35:51 UTC

they don't want hate-mobs

2018-11-07 12:35:56 UTC

but in the short time, I'm not too sure

2018-11-07 12:36:03 UTC

they'll lose money in the long run and revert

2018-11-07 12:36:11 UTC

or they'll die off 😄

2018-11-07 12:36:24 UTC

what do you guys think of the banning of Gab?

2018-11-07 12:36:31 UTC

There is almost no freemarket though. Since half a dozen companies control everything.

2018-11-07 12:36:35 UTC

i saw that coming from a mile away

2018-11-07 12:36:35 UTC

Banning it is wrong.

2018-11-07 12:36:36 UTC

they even stole their domain

2018-11-07 12:36:49 UTC

Gabs market is their issue

2018-11-07 12:36:49 UTC

if I heard correctly

2018-11-07 12:37:24 UTC

Gab will innovate I hope.

2018-11-07 12:37:34 UTC

To get around this bullying.

2018-11-07 12:37:47 UTC

I think Gab is shit, specially on the tech side. But I'm now kinda siding with them after what they did to them

2018-11-07 12:38:01 UTC

Yes, its a free speech platform for all,

But if other platforms ban criminals/nazis/trolls/hatemongers etc

They'll automatically be drawn to the one that doesnt, and you'll get a permanent stain on your label

Cuz even if the people of gab don't like those people, they have to be allowed on for Gabs mission statement

2018-11-07 12:38:30 UTC

and their competitors will gladly get rid of them for that

2018-11-07 12:38:43 UTC

i mean it IS the issue

2018-11-07 12:38:53 UTC

"If you don't like twitter, start your own twitter"

2018-11-07 12:38:57 UTC

and when peopel do, it gets banned

2018-11-07 12:39:07 UTC

so you can't have a free market

2018-11-07 12:39:22 UTC

the problem is that if you embrace free speech, they will ALL, as a collective, label them as criminals/nazis/trolls/hatemongers

2018-11-07 12:39:29 UTC

yes

2018-11-07 12:39:32 UTC

thats what i said

2018-11-07 12:39:36 UTC

you'll just get stained

2018-11-07 12:39:59 UTC

If the first amendment if extended to the internet that might fix it?

2018-11-07 12:40:04 UTC

this kinda makes me think we need some platforms that are more underground

2018-11-07 12:40:07 UTC

For the US anyway

2018-11-07 12:40:12 UTC

and to become bigger gradually

2018-11-07 12:40:23 UTC

to the point of being too big to shutdown at that point

2018-11-07 12:40:36 UTC

They will all be called nazi sites/groups if they are found out though @.B

2018-11-07 12:40:52 UTC

they can't do it if they have millions of users

2018-11-07 12:40:58 UTC

the narrative doesn't stand

2018-11-07 12:41:52 UTC

I'm a dev, I'm tempted to start one tbh
