denial of the religious reflex in humans is stupid
Idk.. I don't need religion to help my neighbour in need or to have the moral principle of not hurting people around me.
I think that ideologies popping up in societies is pretty much inevitable and that a harmless religion is a good protection from a more harmful ideology, religion or not from popping up
We also have a reflex for wanting to steal shiny objects. No one denies it.
our mind is filled with all kind of things that are not true but evolutionary advantagiosu
Exactly and that is why we must not abolish Religion, we must find a better religion and replace the old ones with the new version!
its hard to replace a religion that had 2000 years + of finetuning
@Senny how involved are you in your community at large? How attached do you feel to the people who live near you? Do you know how they're doing?
Church is an easy way of accomplishing all of that
How is it that social media is getting off scot free right now.
arguably if it was that bad, it would have disappeared like all those other religions of 2k years ago
It's not impossible to do otherwise
@Beemann not at all but I wasn't even when I was young and groomed into religion, it's personality thing, not religious
But it's not terribly common to see it happen eithee
The problem with any religion is that SOME PERCENTAGE of it wants you to take it literally.
It's not though. If you're a churchgoer you will already be interacting with those around you
And then all the people that weren't taking it literally don't say "No" to that person
They sheepishly just.. accept it.
"Yeah well... Eh..."
Like how you just naturally made friends in school
I'm not saying it can't help, but I'm saying it's not necessary for having those values.
@Scribblehatch your autism is on fire
... Fuck off, we're not taking this shit literally. Not the Ark, not the Garden, none of it.
@Deleted User Make points.
No, it's not necessary, but it's a social system we haven't reliably replaced
I don't think we disagree with you on that point Senny, at least for most people it's not
@Scribblehatch Are we talking about Islam again? ;)
But then again, I don't want to imagine what would have happened if a certain person, that wasn't German, would have done things different if he really knew about Islam.
Prager says that without religion, there's no reason you wouldn't be evil.
So no, not just Islam.
Or its possible that he did and adopted the parts he knew in his Ideology.
i was trying to make a corny joke relating your unhinged typing chat carisma with your sex is on fire by kings of leon, ''your autism is on fire''
get it?
there is plenty of reasons not to be evil
not all of those come from organised religion tho
The golden rule never gets any credit for preceding religion in all cultures.
emphasis on organised
True but sometimes Organized Religion fuckes that up.
The golden rule is simplicity itself.
golden rule?
Technically there isn't an especially good reason not to be "evil" ever
"Don't do that, unless you'd like it done to you, dumdum."
everyone and their mothers follow some religion, because the world is too complex to reason at every step
I don't follow a religion
some people feel that doing things right and having responsabilites is evil
just not organized religion
There's a thunderstorm outside my door right now.
```"Don't do that, unless you'd like it done to you, dumdum."```
Someone has to come up with that shit. And that's how Religions start.
All major religions came about before we had an explanation for WHAT THAT SHIT WAS
Thing is: Marxism is kinda a Religion.
"Believing in a lie is important"
"We can't just..ditch christianity now. It's been around too long"
Well that's just fucking laziness.
believing in something is important
Philosophy is not religion.
IDK, people sometimes call Taoism a religion.
nihilism just makes peeps depressed and lazy
It's like if you made One Punch Man in the west, and at the end of the day, you had decide whether DC or Marvel owned him
And depression plus nihilism leads to some pretty bad shit.
"Wait, why can't we be a seperate thing"
which is why you gotta dedicate yourself to a religion, not organized, but a set of rules to live by you believe in
"NAH NAH accept it."
without justification
because you believe
"Marvel or DC. They've been around too long. Give up your One Punch Man. C'mon don't be a fedora tipping lil autist."
that they will improve the world
or yourself
Philosophy is not religion, @>Cytos, de lieve goede synth
Philosophy is not a religion. I repeat.
depending on what you want ofc
^proof that Religion does some good!
Religion contains and codified philosophy
Watch the David Wood Interview by Gad Saad!
I'd say philosophy can totally adopt religious styles and potentially replace it.
philosophy is not religion, because you dont believe in what you philosophise, its just thoughts
beliefs are unconsciously informed
Wot
Bronies have done good.
Numerous charity efforts.
that's faith, not belief
I'm not too sure. The Social Justice mob believes what it preaches pretty thoutoughly.
Why do only religions get the credit for that kind of work. I mean jesus.
my liberal principles are my beliefs..am I religious now ?
David is a Sociopath, Religion helped him to get "on the right part" and be a decent part of Society.
Without that he could have become a Mass Murderer...
According to the pink elephant
Yes
and yeah, people have faith in idelologies that have no spirituality and therefor are not religions
probably not tbh
@Scribblehatch Fair point. But people go after bronies the same way.
So... psychotic people should be told ghost stories to keep them in line.
aww shit nibba..who do I worship Rye ?
I'd agree with that.
Moloch, duh
Yes.
cool
like i said, beliefs are unconsciously informed, he found a organized religion that resonates with his subconscious beliefs on how the world should work
I like this plan.
If someone is superstitious to the point of criminal leanings, give them superstitions helpful to us.
i think my biggest problem with atheism is that when people get too into it it starts becoming the worst parts of being overtly-religious. in my lifetime the biggest earful about beliefs i have gotten has consistently been atheists, and i've known some pretty possessed religious folks
But imposing that on the rest of us is akin to ENFORCING 50+ PRONOUNS.
