You don't use Santa in a bad way, do you?

2018-08-31 21:17:08 UTC

denial of the religious reflex in humans is stupid

2018-08-31 21:17:14 UTC

Idk.. I don't need religion to help my neighbour in need or to have the moral principle of not hurting people around me.

2018-08-31 21:17:18 UTC

I think that ideologies popping up in societies is pretty much inevitable and that a harmless religion is a good protection from a more harmful ideology, religion or not from popping up

2018-08-31 21:17:32 UTC

We also have a reflex for wanting to steal shiny objects. No one denies it.

2018-08-31 21:17:32 UTC

our mind is filled with all kind of things that are not true but evolutionary advantagiosu

2018-08-31 21:17:36 UTC

Exactly and that is why we must not abolish Religion, we must find a better religion and replace the old ones with the new version!

2018-08-31 21:17:59 UTC

its hard to replace a religion that had 2000 years + of finetuning

2018-08-31 21:18:00 UTC

@Senny how involved are you in your community at large? How attached do you feel to the people who live near you? Do you know how they're doing?

2018-08-31 21:18:19 UTC

Church is an easy way of accomplishing all of that

2018-08-31 21:18:26 UTC

How is it that social media is getting off scot free right now.

2018-08-31 21:18:28 UTC

arguably if it was that bad, it would have disappeared like all those other religions of 2k years ago

2018-08-31 21:18:30 UTC

It's not impossible to do otherwise

2018-08-31 21:18:43 UTC

@Beemann not at all but I wasn't even when I was young and groomed into religion, it's personality thing, not religious

2018-08-31 21:18:45 UTC

But it's not terribly common to see it happen eithee

2018-08-31 21:19:10 UTC

The problem with any religion is that SOME PERCENTAGE of it wants you to take it literally.

2018-08-31 21:19:18 UTC

It's not though. If you're a churchgoer you will already be interacting with those around you

2018-08-31 21:19:19 UTC

And then all the people that weren't taking it literally don't say "No" to that person

2018-08-31 21:19:25 UTC

They sheepishly just.. accept it.

2018-08-31 21:19:30 UTC

"Yeah well... Eh..."

2018-08-31 21:19:33 UTC

Like how you just naturally made friends in school

2018-08-31 21:19:37 UTC

I'm not saying it can't help, but I'm saying it's not necessary for having those values.

2018-08-31 21:19:44 UTC

@Scribblehatch your autism is on fire

2018-08-31 21:19:44 UTC

... Fuck off, we're not taking this shit literally. Not the Ark, not the Garden, none of it.

2018-08-31 21:19:53 UTC

@Deleted User Make points.

2018-08-31 21:19:55 UTC

No, it's not necessary, but it's a social system we haven't reliably replaced

2018-08-31 21:20:05 UTC

I don't think we disagree with you on that point Senny, at least for most people it's not

2018-08-31 21:20:12 UTC

@Scribblehatch Are we talking about Islam again? ;)
But then again, I don't want to imagine what would have happened if a certain person, that wasn't German, would have done things different if he really knew about Islam.

2018-08-31 21:20:42 UTC

Prager says that without religion, there's no reason you wouldn't be evil.

2018-08-31 21:20:45 UTC

So no, not just Islam.

2018-08-31 21:20:48 UTC

Or its possible that he did and adopted the parts he knew in his Ideology.

2018-08-31 21:21:03 UTC

i was trying to make a corny joke relating your unhinged typing chat carisma with your sex is on fire by kings of leon, ''your autism is on fire''

2018-08-31 21:21:06 UTC

get it?

2018-08-31 21:21:11 UTC

there is plenty of reasons not to be evil

2018-08-31 21:21:24 UTC

not all of those come from organised religion tho

2018-08-31 21:21:31 UTC

The golden rule never gets any credit for preceding religion in all cultures.

2018-08-31 21:21:31 UTC

emphasis on organised

2018-08-31 21:21:39 UTC

True but sometimes Organized Religion fuckes that up.

2018-08-31 21:21:39 UTC

The golden rule is simplicity itself.

2018-08-31 21:21:40 UTC

golden rule?

2018-08-31 21:21:47 UTC

Technically there isn't an especially good reason not to be "evil" ever
