Some people just can't handle competition and the realization that they need to git gud because they just have no experience with it. If you'll allow me to make speculation I'd guess that because Madden is a casual game that it was a case of a guy thinking he was good because he always plays at home by himself and then being forced to realize he was bad when he went face to face with other people

Like think of how many people are convinced they're gods at Smash because they can charge smash attacks to hit the CPU when it comes running towards them. I've met so many people like that who think they're amazing because they never faced any real competition, and then get upset when they find out they suck

Here's my hot take: People who do shit like this should be bullied. The whole internet should mock the shit out of them. We should show sympathy for those who are in such horrible situations that they would consider something like this, but not for them after they do it.
They're treated with far too much respect when the whole internet stands still because of their actions. They're given nonstop media coverage for days or weeks and I can understand how that could be give someone who feels forgotten incentive to want that. But for people who actually do commit so such an awful act we shouldn't have any respect for.
