Would anyone be interested in a debate?

2020-11-30 15:54:15 UTC

Just to be clear I am a centrist so don't worry about me being a libtard lmao.

2020-11-30 16:36:04 UTC

What does being a libtard mean?

2020-11-30 16:37:25 UTC

Do you assume your political position as a centrist so you can embrace some of the humanitarian arguments proposed by the left while still avoiding the โ€œhorrorsโ€ of leftist rhetoric?

2020-11-30 16:55:38 UTC

No I literally unironically dislike both sides. The end.

2020-11-30 16:56:08 UTC

But I'd love to have a conversation if you're willing

2020-12-01 01:14:40 UTC

What would you like to talk about

2020-12-01 04:06:28 UTC

Here guys

2020-12-01 04:06:35 UTC

Ok!

2020-12-01 04:06:37 UTC

Wait

2020-12-01 04:06:45 UTC

Dang it he left ๐Ÿ˜‚

2020-12-01 04:06:49 UTC

2020-12-01 04:06:55 UTC

I think he got offended maybe

2020-12-01 04:06:55 UTC

WTF ๐Ÿ˜‚

2020-12-01 04:07:05 UTC

Was my bad probably ๐Ÿ˜” Sowwyy

2020-12-01 04:07:13 UTC

Lol

2020-12-01 04:07:24 UTC

He probably got bored Lol

2020-12-01 04:07:29 UTC

Ah okay LOL

2020-12-01 04:07:42 UTC

...

2020-12-01 04:09:08 UTC

What did you want to debate about? @Anguished Art Student

2020-12-01 04:09:48 UTC

Iโ€™m a firm believer in UBI being better than the current stimulus package, try to prove me wrong!

2020-12-01 04:10:12 UTC

Universal Basic Income?

2020-12-01 04:10:19 UTC

Yep!

2020-12-01 04:10:27 UTC

Have we seen it in action?

2020-12-01 04:11:23 UTC

Not on a large scale...

2020-12-01 04:11:24 UTC

In terms of getting through this pandemic, probably yeah. Considering UBI takes into consideration everything else in the economy and the cost of living whereas the stimulus is temporary

2020-12-01 04:11:29 UTC

Not much of an argument there

2020-12-01 04:11:43 UTC

Long term, neither are feasible

2020-12-01 04:11:53 UTC

True!

2020-12-01 04:12:02 UTC

So we probably agree on that one xD

2020-12-01 04:12:27 UTC

But if we are talking about the short term universal basic income will better sustain our economy

2020-12-01 04:12:35 UTC

Prob Lol

2020-12-01 04:12:51 UTC

Still

2020-12-01 04:13:24 UTC

Many people on the Right refuse to accept it because of the Leftist stigma surrounding it

2020-12-01 04:13:32 UTC

Yes short term UBI would be more reliable for everyone out of work

2020-12-01 04:13:44 UTC

It's just not feasible for long term

2020-12-01 04:13:46 UTC

Stimulus package is just a lot of hopeful wishing and waiting

2020-12-01 04:14:04 UTC

But we also need to find a way to decrease it and promote a return to the work force

2020-12-01 04:14:17 UTC

So people dont become too dependant on it once covid blows over

2020-12-01 04:14:33 UTC

While UBI keeps our economy treading water until we recover

2020-12-01 04:14:49 UTC

Exactly

2020-12-01 04:15:18 UTC

Because so far many people have been struggling horribly due to loss of work and businesses have had to close permanently

2020-12-01 04:15:41 UTC

Yep!

2020-12-01 04:15:42 UTC

Yes I also agree

2020-12-01 04:15:49 UTC

UBI is better in that case

2020-12-01 04:16:19 UTC

And I feel like the stimulus package is just something they threw together real quick

2020-12-01 04:16:23 UTC

Without giving it much thought

2020-12-01 04:16:34 UTC

If UBI was implemented, more work would go into it

2020-12-01 04:16:54 UTC

Im sure they did give it a lot of thought but honestly, a stimulus package doesnt do anything long term. Thats where the flaw is

2020-12-01 04:16:55 UTC

In other words, They didnโ€™t learn from the recession & are implementing the same ideas to something different

2020-12-01 04:17:05 UTC

ORRRRR we could not close down the economy

2020-12-01 04:17:16 UTC

And put priority on the elderly or those most vulnerable

2020-12-01 04:18:02 UTC

@Mystika What do you mean by Priority?

2020-12-01 04:18:29 UTC

Now I dont like closing the economy; however, if done, it should be state by state basis, or even county by county, and should have been done sooner to halt the spread. Even with them promoting lockdowns, they did it way too late for it to really be effective.

2020-12-01 04:18:48 UTC

Agreed!

2020-12-01 04:18:56 UTC

This isnโ€™t really a debate anymore Lol

2020-12-01 04:19:13 UTC

Itโ€™s just stating facts that are cut from the same cloth

2020-12-01 04:19:27 UTC

Well I work in healthcare

2020-12-01 04:19:41 UTC

I mean putting priority on long term care facilities or senior homes

2020-12-01 04:19:51 UTC

Putting more restrictions on the vulnerable

2020-12-01 04:20:01 UTC

Yes, thats where the death toll really is

2020-12-01 04:20:12 UTC

Because many younger people have gotten it and have been able to isolate at home and get over it

2020-12-01 04:20:24 UTC

Iโ€™m still a student so I experience so I donโ€™t really benefit or lose anything from closures

2020-12-01 04:20:25 UTC

But then people would have issue with just restricting a certain group of people

2020-12-01 04:20:27 UTC

The fact that people are getting arrested for keeping their businesses open is bewildering to me

2020-12-01 04:21:00 UTC

No I just meant I work in healthcare so I see the type of people who have to get hospitalized due to covid vs those who don't have to

2020-12-01 04:21:10 UTC

True

2020-12-01 04:21:19 UTC

Oh, Iโ€™m sorry!

2020-12-01 04:21:26 UTC

It's either that or the economy

2020-12-01 04:21:30 UTC

I got confused Lol

2020-12-01 04:21:32 UTC

We have a pretty good life expectancy here, right?

2020-12-01 04:21:35 UTC

@Anguished Art Student no don't be sorry :)

2020-12-01 04:21:49 UTC

I know, but its America. People are very defensive over that sort of thing.

2020-12-01 04:22:09 UTC

If one thing can really define our culture, its rebellion. Lol

2020-12-01 04:22:31 UTC

Lmao, you take the risk and go outside when you're vulnerable, well too bad. It shouldn't be the governments job to force people

2020-12-01 04:23:06 UTC

Right. Then theres the issue of overburdening healthcare though

2020-12-01 04:23:14 UTC

Maybe it's different for me. Everyone in Canada is too obedient without questioning anything so it's the exact opposite

2020-12-01 04:23:24 UTC

True, the purpose of a government is to dictate & limit. Not control.

2020-12-01 04:23:33 UTC

The people that land in ICU are people with pre-existing conditions and the elderly

2020-12-01 04:23:41 UTC

So it still goes back to them

2020-12-01 04:23:57 UTC

I have yet to see a case of anyone under 35 in the ICU for covid

2020-12-01 04:24:06 UTC

In my hospital at least

2020-12-01 04:24:15 UTC

Interesting...

2020-12-01 04:24:49 UTC

@Anguished Art Student also just an FYI that at the start of covid, they were declaring all deaths as covid deaths and I'm not sure why. Just something to ponder about

2020-12-01 04:24:59 UTC

Meaning they didn't bother to do autopsies and just declared them as covid deaths

2020-12-01 04:25:13 UTC

is this even a debate

2020-12-01 04:25:23 UTC

There is also the issue of flawed testing where they have false positives, even for people who skipped testing altogether

2020-12-01 04:25:45 UTC

We are discussing things to see where our opinions may differ. That is where debate begins.

2020-12-01 04:25:48 UTC

@Mystika, this is the same government that tried to hide COVID, saying it would pass in a couple months... -Iโ€™m not surprised

2020-12-01 04:25:56 UTC

Idk if that's because the risk of the autopsy if the patient did have covid was big, like many people didn't want to do the autopsy in case they did have covid because we didn't know much about the virus back then

2020-12-01 04:26:13 UTC

@Anguished Art Student I live in Canada

2020-12-01 04:26:21 UTC

Ohhh

2020-12-01 04:26:22 UTC

We also said it would pass soon here

2020-12-01 04:26:26 UTC

And everywhere in the world said that

2020-12-01 04:26:39 UTC

They weren't hiding covid. They were up front about it being an issue while trying to remain optimistic. Look at where the fear got us: empty store shelves, no toilet paper, people panicking, etc.

2020-12-01 04:26:52 UTC

The American government acted similar to the rest of the world when handling covid, but no other government got as much hate

2020-12-01 04:27:01 UTC

I love Americans but y'all just love to hate LMAO

2020-12-01 04:27:42 UTC

Because no other country had a guy that claims windmills where dangerous as president

2020-12-01 04:27:42 UTC

We closed the borders pretty quickly due to covid. What happened? There were claims of xenophobia while democrats urged people to go to chinatown and dance with asians to fight racism.
