This is a scripted message. An important announcement has just been posted in the #announcements channel. Please review it in detail and follow the instructions given. If we have not conversed recently (or since the last scripted message), give me an update on your organizing and any questions or matters I can assist with. Thank you.
Do we have a rough estimate of the attendance cost for the December event? Also is the plan still to rent a van or two?
I told people to plan to set aside $100, even though I'm quite sure it will be lower than that.
Yes. I predict Oscar TX's 8 seater plus Vincent TX renting a 15 passenger. That should be more than enough as far as seating goes, and we will need a truck for gear. If yours is all fixed up we could volunteer that.
I remember there being space in the back of the van when we went to Chicago we could load gear into.
If it's 15 seats then there's no cargo space.
Also, we need to take all the shields there.
We're going to have 30 shields, a big trunk of items for sale and delivery orders, and probably a litany of other smaller items.
I’ll see if my truck will be able to handle another big trip. My worry is that the wheels may be on their last limb before needing to be replaced.
What airport are guys going to have to fly into/what time will they need to get there by?
Check up on the tires and let me know.
It depends, who are we speaking of in particular?
Scott.
Daniel and Douglas are also flying though, but it seems they have that taken care of already.
If Scott has to fly too he should do the same as the others. Try to get on the same flight.
He can’t do the same as the others.
What is the difference?
He won’t be able to leave for the airport until about 5:30-6:00.
I would ask @ND - Samuel VA
Douglas wants to know if since he will be on heavy shields but won’t make the meetup this weekend if he can see the drill sheet to study.
I have not authorized the sharing of the Drilling Practices document that widely.
Alright.
He's been invited to three drill meets thus far, and hasn't been able to go to any.
Yes, but he has been confirmed for the December event. And he is our network’s most physically fit and capable individual.
I'm doing everything I can on my end to make sure that everyone has the experience they need.
That’s understandable, and perhaps he will be able to pick up on the basics when we drill the day of the event.
I will work with him before the event in person.
What days might you go about doing that?
I will see about meeting with him next weekend, and also see about having the other cluster 3 men join so that we all get more practice in.
What time will he have available next weekend?
Douglas has marching down already, so we will only need to worry about practicing shield drills.
I’m having trouble logging into the membership server, I was logged out somehow and can’t remember my login credentials.
Your username would be PaulTX
Thank you that worked.
I had my truck’s wheels checked out today and the attendant recommended having them changed by the end of the year and was pessimistic about taking them on a long road trip to the east coast.
He suggested that only the back two would be most likely to fail, whereas the front tires are still halfway there.
If you have a spare and changing kit and all that, could be fine if he was just pessimistic.
I have a spare, but it’s the type that’s only meant to last you to get to the nearest shop to have it changed out.
How much would it be to swap out the back two?
I didn’t get that estimate from him, but probably $300-400
I could cover your event fee if you want to get it done in the meantime. Since he said before end of year it's a somewhat trifling difference in timeline.
Would it be inappropriate to ask my network for funds to have the tires replaced before we leave?
As long as you work out something with them that's amicable, sure. You could confer with Patrick first about driving, but considering the distance and lack of stops it may be best to have a vehicle that more people can drive and sit in.
Considering Oscar’s vehicle and the van we’re renting I wouldn’t be worried about space, but I’m not going to ask Pat to take his vehicle since I understand he is having issues affording insurance and can’t have as many people help drive it.
We need to get gear there such as shields 100% and only a truck can make it work.
Do what you can to get your truck ready, ask who you need to in order to make it work. I'll pitch in whatever I can.
I’ll see about asking my network about raising funds, but if there is no other choice I may end up having to take the brute of that cost, which is fine since it is my vehicle and I need new tires anyways.
Of course.
I’m scheduled to have my tires replaced tomorrow afternoon.
Fantastic.
Do you still plan on having me go over marching and shield drills with our guys?
Be prepared to
👍🏻
