What's the deal with american cartoon art style these days? The weird adventure time/Steven universe art was fine when it was a novelty, but its pretty wide spread now.

It's a warning sign for normal people to stay away.

It's easy to draw which means it's cheap to make, and they can hire unskilled workers(and really there aren't skilled animators in cartooning any more)

Nah, we're just in a shitty place for cartoons right now. You can see the same conformity of rubber hose animation in the 30's(although the animation WAS much better and creative)
