Anyway, the lady who intervened and stirred the pot, well I kinda empathize with her now too.
The trouble maker, I would shut down and tell her I will not engage her. Then fix the other situation, you are not obligated to even apologize to her friend because her friend was stirring up trouble.
That is how I would have handle it.
