Just as car users should be paying for the road network
not if it's private
Okay bois, let me try to get some sense from you guys here. How many different types of trains run in the UK? and Do they all use one standardised rail lines?
Well it's private and you're subsidising it
yes, i said that earlier
i'm happy with fully private or fully public
There is one standardise rail line. Some lines are electrified, some not
not this inbetween shit
A tiny proportion are rated for high-speed, but the gauge is the same
The problem is road users are fleeced so city cunts can get to work and put the price of rural housing up through the roof
> It's not fair that car drivers should be subsidising rail
Keeps less people on the roads tbf
Not round here it don't
ya tru
rail isn't everywhere
and doesn't go everywhere
so it's can't support us rural people
Rural areas where I am have interconnected rail that can go to Glasgow
I think that's the extended metro for your area
it's the same in wales
Yeah our cross country trains go to England or to Aberdeen/Inverness
Here's the solution for you (for me) - reduce taxation on car drivers - it should not be in total more than the cost of maintaining and running the road network
Put the difference on general taxation
the companies that RUN the train don't OWN them. They're owned by rolling stock companies who then lease the trains to the train operating company.
My issue with it -mostly- goes away at that point
@faultfiction right, who is talking about that here
no one here is talking about that

The issue for me isn't that rail is subsidised, per se, but the cost of that subsidy is being put on people who can't use it, and can least afford it
Same principle should apply to alcohol and cigarette taxes
Most scottish trains are dire as it is
welsh trains are too
suck ass
Increased ticket prices too
my council tax went up 200 this year
bigger annoyance
The inter-National trains are okay
And the ones that go to the highlands
1800 for bins
seems a bit much
Everything else is shit tier
yeet them into the fire
