@BFG you wouldn't need to conduct at 1:1 test to check the theory. (Although final product would need to be tested against such things). You can scale it down. So find something with about say half the structural strength as the loop, then you could do something similar for a mock up of the sled, find a vacuum level that would lead to about 1/2 ATM pressure on the outside, and run it up to half the speed or so.
