They tend to form clumps of tissue while some areas of the matrix is left unpopulated

2020-03-10 16:32:56 UTC

@Harrybaxter♫♫♩♫‿◦ gene therapy is already there
They have substituted chromosomes in mice via virus that was altered to do that job

2020-03-10 16:33:29 UTC

Was not the cleanest result, producing a chimera mouse with male and female cells as a result

2020-03-10 16:33:39 UTC

But it is a definite success so far

2020-03-10 16:34:04 UTC

Science is awesome

As an aside: if decellularised transplants will be perfected - people will gain an ability to have any and all organs/limbs being replaced after an injury/illness that destroyed them

2020-03-10 16:35:45 UTC

No more amputees

2020-03-10 16:35:50 UTC

No more diabetics

2020-03-10 16:36:30 UTC

Will it ever be possible to build micro machines the size of brain cells which are capable of copying the function of brain cells?

2020-03-10 16:36:33 UTC

And if the gene therapy will improve to a level of pefection and failsafe, you can say goodbye to having genetic defects

2020-03-10 16:36:50 UTC

You could keep your ability to digest milk into the ripe old age

2020-03-10 16:37:04 UTC

You could cure diabetes without any operative intrusion

2020-03-10 16:37:33 UTC

You can add new taste buds to the tongue and new light sensors to the eyes to enhance your life

2020-03-10 16:38:27 UTC

@Xenon First and foremost we need a neuralink.
We kinda have one method nailed down: opthogenetic therapy

2020-03-10 16:38:58 UTC

Virus installs a code for an intra-cellular-eye and this nerve cell now can react to a specific wavelength of light

2020-03-10 16:39:30 UTC

Thus you can fetch the fiberoptic cable to those cells with eyes and feed them info

2020-03-10 16:40:08 UTC

This method is only one-way though
So it is only viable for a hearing aid or possibly restoring vision in blind people

2020-03-10 16:40:30 UTC

It is a lucky coincidence that fiberoptics are never rejected by our body

2020-03-10 16:40:33 UTC

My theory is to replace each brain cell one at a time with an individual micro machine. Each one would take over the function of that brain cell as a copy. Replace every brain cell and you effectively transform your brain into a machine without even losing consciousness

2020-03-10 16:41:03 UTC

I would love to infect my cochlear nerves with this eye-virus and connect an external device to it

2020-03-10 16:41:50 UTC

A device that would provide me with better hearing, better sense of balance and maybe also a sense of time (add a ticker that will inform me about seconds)

2020-03-10 16:41:55 UTC

Can we have a chat that has ultrasmurf theme playing at the background?

2020-03-10 16:42:16 UTC

Also maybe add a magnetometer and gravitometer to that cochlear device too

2020-03-10 16:42:23 UTC

Because why not feel those too?

2020-03-10 16:43:15 UTC

@Xenon sounds like a viable idea, but nothing of sorts exists to make it happen yet

2020-03-10 16:43:45 UTC

Yeah I think it would work if we could build machines that small

2020-03-10 16:44:32 UTC

Nah you'd start getting degenerative problems

2020-03-10 16:44:49 UTC

Each one would need to be programmable enough to detect and mimic cell functions

2020-03-10 16:45:01 UTC

If the machines aren't calibrated perfectly to the neurons they're replacing, your brain will start going crazy.

2020-03-10 16:45:15 UTC

The chemicals involved with the receptors won't work

2020-03-10 16:45:18 UTC

Anyone has a good crying emoji?

What if the process was fast?

2020-03-10 16:45:58 UTC

No

2020-03-10 16:46:08 UTC

Like an hour or so

2020-03-10 16:46:16 UTC

Need more crying emoji
