@Beemann It's far more insidious. What kind of control do you think the Google App Store is capable of? We've already seen what they did to Gab.

2018-10-30 09:09:54 UTC

And Infowars.

2018-10-30 09:09:55 UTC

190 death threats at Trump on twitter right now, not being taken down, no one banned

2018-10-30 09:10:06 UTC

I dont use the app store

2018-10-30 09:10:06 UTC

@Timcast we dont need more regulation for free speech. Companies allready cant curate and publish illegal stuff without being accountable allready - its just not enforced. As soon as you curate, you are responsible for everything the moment it happens, deleting it 30 seconds later doesnt save you

2018-10-30 09:10:07 UTC

I've stopped using the app store

2018-10-30 09:10:21 UTC

I don't even have it installed

2018-10-30 09:10:52 UTC

@Redneo My thinking exactly. The regulation is coming whether we want it or not. At least we should get something good out of it.

2018-10-30 09:11:08 UTC

As it is, Europe is dictating the policies with *their* regulations.

2018-10-30 09:11:12 UTC

Good luck

2018-10-30 09:11:22 UTC

Politics never changes

2018-10-30 09:11:22 UTC

the net is way to centralised, maybe blockchain/dapps can help, but barrier to adoption will be high

2018-10-30 09:11:34 UTC

@pratel no we dont need new regulation. That regulation allready exists in the US. Thats the rules

2018-10-30 09:11:45 UTC

No, it doesn't not yet anyway.

2018-10-30 09:11:50 UTC

That's why they do what they do.

2018-10-30 09:11:59 UTC

Blockchain is the one cool thing to come out of cryptoshit

2018-10-30 09:12:15 UTC

Torrent may be the future.

2018-10-30 09:12:21 UTC

Yeah it does. Okay, imagine you spread childporn on your website. You are responsible. Similar stuff is posted on twitter im sure.

2018-10-30 09:12:22 UTC

Why dont we just move to local broadband instead?

2018-10-30 09:12:31 UTC

But I worry that there is always a maintenance element that people forget.

2018-10-30 09:12:40 UTC

they are not responsible as long as they are a platform rather than a publisher

2018-10-30 09:12:47 UTC

if they curate, they are a publisher

2018-10-30 09:12:51 UTC

thats the rules as they stand now

2018-10-30 09:13:14 UTC

No it doesn't, that's why people are up in arms about Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.

2018-10-30 09:13:19 UTC

i run a decent size platform, if they make me responsible for what others post, I'm dead.

2018-10-30 09:13:29 UTC

^ This too.

2018-10-30 09:13:42 UTC

well you are responsible IF you curate

2018-10-30 09:13:44 UTC

You really need to make Reddit and Facebook like a telephone company.

2018-10-30 09:13:47 UTC

But @Redneo how do you determine if it's being curated or deleted for breaking the terms of service

2018-10-30 09:14:08 UTC

if you delete stuff thats not against the law or enforce your guidlines in any other way than with an iron fist to every post equaly, you are responsible

2018-10-30 09:14:55 UTC

if you tolerate something that violates the letter of your guidlines just as much from an egg account and delete something similar from a big account, you are not equaly enforcing your rules

2018-10-30 09:15:11 UTC

that's all subjective

2018-10-30 09:15:17 UTC

But just becuase a company misses a post here or there on one side does not prove that its been curated

2018-10-30 09:15:47 UTC

Correlation does not equal causation

2018-10-30 09:16:03 UTC

The only way you can proof that you dont curate is by only removing stuff after receiving a takedown notice from a court

2018-10-30 09:16:07 UTC

Dont get me wrong I agree

2018-10-30 09:16:50 UTC

But the company's still deserve legal protection if it's not curating. Just becuase it seems to some that it is, does not make it true

2018-10-30 09:16:57 UTC

@Redneo as it stands now.. 100's of millions of sites are in violation of what you describe.

2018-10-30 09:16:57 UTC

Many examples of this

2018-10-30 09:17:10 UTC

@beaker yes they are

2018-10-30 09:17:16 UTC

Its still US law
