The character design reminds me of a mix between Zelda and Kingdom Hearts @Scribblehatch
Nice saitama pic
Also that monster is just a mammoth with extra tusks in a shadow mud thing
You didn't even decide what you wanted or what it's purpose is
You're doing this backwards
@FrostyCrits yeah some of my messages were unsent but I blame my phone
Guess it was a hiccup
I once came up with an RPG idea. I have the story nearly fully fleshed out. @Scribblehatch
I've been sitting on it for two years
It starts with a cliche fantasy medieval context. Very basic and cliche
It's meant to be, for what happens later
By the end it goes as far as the best games out there I'd say. The reason is because it was set up to be bland and predictable
Gets flipped on it's head a quarter of the way in, then the last half of the game is when gameplay picks up and the story gets complex.
With more freedom for the player
I worked with new RPG maker scripts that include timed attacks.
A system that, when you cast a spell, it requires you to input a combination of buttons
So instead of just selecting a spell on a menu, you really have to memorize the combination
This adds to the feeling of accomplishment and skill appreciation
Select Magic then input A, A, Up, Down, it may cast something specific
multiple levels of casting? or all or nothing?
The stronger magic is longer combinations
I'm more into the strategy than the memorization.
With fighter characters, their advanced abilities work the same
no, i mean.. the combo is 4 buttons long, you get 3 and botch the 4th. Does it still cast at 75% or just fail?
See but my game is both memorization and strategy @Scribblehatch
@Misomania it's easy to implement that either way
maybe have each button press push it further down a branching spell tree?
I also liked Mario RPG for the Super Nintendo when you had to time your basic attacks. That script also exists
In WoW when you fight its the same, if you don't do the best rotation you dont do much dmg
@Misomania possible and easy to implement
I want every character to have unique timing for all their attacks and abilities
Mario RPG's timing wasn't a whole lot of memorization though
Also
Speaking of Mario RPG
I sortof like patapon's method of that
In Final Fantasy VIII Squall had one basic timed attack. Why not make it three potential attacks with precise timing
I've done 100 super jumps legit.
it was based on a metronome
I cannot explain to you, any of you, how terrifying it is when you feel yourself getting into the 70s
@Scribblehatch it wasn't that precise. Kids could do it.
