there is a growing resentment going on (including myself), because these taxes:

If the taxes on gas are offset by reductions in other taxes that fall primarily on middle and lower income people, then it makes some sense if you believe that taxes can be used to recoup the cost to society for behaviors that cost society money.

2018-12-01 20:01:30 UTC

1) arent used for anything like investment in getting more reliable green energy for example

2018-12-01 20:02:00 UTC

2) are on their way to create a situation where only the upper class & elite will be able to have a car and go on vacation

2018-12-01 20:02:10 UTC

basically, a return to the 19th century

2018-12-01 20:02:38 UTC

I would advocate for higher taxes on oil products and products with disproportionate packaging or which cost society a lot to dispose of (i.e. LCD screens) if it were offset by a proportional decrease in general sales tax, for example.

2018-12-01 20:02:54 UTC

Idk the situation in france

2018-12-01 20:03:05 UTC

but over here, if u are doing a working class job

2018-12-01 20:03:14 UTC

u can forget about public transport to get to work

2018-12-01 20:03:15 UTC

But I expect the tax increase on gas wasn't offset at all.

2018-12-01 20:04:01 UTC

Its not just gas, diesel apparently costs 0.something a liter

2018-12-01 20:04:16 UTC

yet at the pump ppl pay up to 1.5€ a liter

2018-12-01 20:04:16 UTC

typo?

2018-12-01 20:04:34 UTC

nah i dont remember the exact number

2018-12-01 20:04:38 UTC

ah

2018-12-01 20:04:48 UTC

its really small something around 0.20

2018-12-01 20:05:00 UTC

But thats just gas cat

2018-12-01 20:05:02 UTC

Trudeau wants a carbon tax here as well

2018-12-01 20:05:14 UTC

Diesel is about $0.90/liter here in OR after taxes

2018-12-01 20:05:19 UTC

add the fact they tripled electricity costs AND now are facing an energy crisis

2018-12-01 20:05:22 UTC

Yet power corporations are exempted

2018-12-01 20:05:30 UTC

AND on top of that tell people flying here is too cheap

2018-12-01 20:05:47 UTC

and needs to be made more expensive because the market is "making the price too low"

2018-12-01 20:05:59 UTC

And you start to get where im coming from with my 19th century remark

2018-12-01 20:06:06 UTC

everything they do is negative

2018-12-01 20:06:32 UTC

Again, I like the idea of taxing choices that are expensive to society as a whole, but they have to be offset by reductions in blanket consumption taxes

2018-12-01 20:07:08 UTC

instead of gearing towards a positive mentality aka lets focus on finding solutions

2018-12-01 20:07:17 UTC

Tax gas more but don't tax unprepared food for example

2018-12-01 20:07:44 UTC

whats happening is these elite dickheads basically telling people to stop eating food because my ideological goal doesnt align with you eating

2018-12-01 20:08:11 UTC

well they do all of that here cat

2018-12-01 20:08:26 UTC

"let them eat cake"

2018-12-01 20:08:29 UTC

But again, the biggest group of people you punish with what you say

2018-12-01 20:08:35 UTC

are working class people who work in shifts

2018-12-01 20:08:51 UTC

because they need that car and their income is lower already

2018-12-01 20:09:41 UTC

now you got voices popping up saying that they need more share-economy going on to solve this problem

2018-12-01 20:10:17 UTC

do you see the downwards negative trend?

2018-12-01 20:11:34 UTC

anyways government here was so proud to come out and tell people that the lowest incomes increased dramatically thanks to their tax shift.

2018-12-01 20:11:39 UTC

hello

2018-12-01 20:12:00 UTC

Sure true, but that doesnt matter when you make other basic costs way more expensive

2018-12-01 20:12:33 UTC

Some multi-millionaire cosmopolitan heir/heiress doesn't see it at all. Is there some quirk of French politics that gives such people an inordinate amount of influence?

2018-12-01 20:13:00 UTC

idk im not very in tune with french politics
