@AdorableStormtrooper that's my only criticism of Jordan Petersons work, if i may call it that. His discourse about religion is on another lvl, its not for your average Joe to understand
yeah his lectures are very difficult, but then Scripture itself isn't that easy to interpret, in comparison Peterson is like a guide book
at least he's not full conservative religious...
doesnt want evolution out of schools etc
Yeah, but how many of his ideas are really there and how many are just his interpretation
he believes in evolution
exactly
that's the nature of commentary on Scripture, it's all someone's interpretation
it's like that for any big set of literature
tbh it would be weird of someone in his profession not to
most conservative religous types are pro evolution now anyway
I would consider myself christian
to them that is the how and not the why
and believe in evolution
its not really something you can be "pro" .. you either understand it or dont 😛
Peterson is interesting in the sense that his advocacy for religious thinking is based on Evolution, he is a Darwinist in that sense
that idea has been really catching on, I've seen Bret Weinstein talk in those terms with Dawkins
i really think that as a humanity we need to go past religion, i feel like we at that point already, when bad shit starts to prevail over benefits
hahaha
Sadly though I it is probably not possible. In the absence of traditional religion people will turn to something else to worship
they already did, they treat ideologies as a religion
yeah there are definitely a lot of things you cant question these days
Social Justice if you really think about it is really a replacement for religion, activism is prayer
but the new wave conservative religous thought is that science are the rules of god. That they are inseperable from each other in that the universe follows the rules set forward to it by their idea of a creator.
like why are little tiny blondes on TV going punch for punch with massive guys
and then winning
well physics follows a set of laws
that are unbreakable
if we have this instinct within us that we want religion, we should probably guide it towards a positive end, it probably evolved for a reason, shouldn't just suppress it
like.. even jackie chan fought bigger dudes and had to either get lucky using the environment or get smart ... or sometimes he'd just run
I fully agree with this vid about jordan
@zutt gist?
Basically his intelectual interpretation denies the blind faith on which religion is built
Similarly to what anglicans in britain did
Sometimes i wonder how much of free will we really posses. We are complex organisms, with billions and billions of microbiome and bacteria and hormones always clashing and dying and recreating again. How much that shit is affecting us every second and how clearly we can think?) Probably the more stable your bio vessel the more clearly you can think
Even to believe in what Jordan is saying, to believe that there is such a thing as God and it's worth setting your life straight to achieve that ideal and the societal consequences of that.. you have to take a leap of faith. @zutt
Religion is not entirely a bad thing. It can provide a moral guide and drive to become and seek something greater. This is provided of course religion is tempered by reason
you have to give yourself in to it, actually believe and follow the laws you've set for yourself when times are rough.
