@AdorableStormtrooper that's my only criticism of Jordan Petersons work, if i may call it that. His discourse about religion is on another lvl, its not for your average Joe to understand

2018-12-08 19:47:51 UTC

yeah his lectures are very difficult, but then Scripture itself isn't that easy to interpret, in comparison Peterson is like a guide book

2018-12-08 19:48:29 UTC

at least he's not full conservative religious...

2018-12-08 19:48:36 UTC

doesnt want evolution out of schools etc

2018-12-08 19:48:52 UTC

Yeah, but how many of his ideas are really there and how many are just his interpretation

2018-12-08 19:49:07 UTC

he believes in evolution

2018-12-08 19:49:26 UTC

exactly

2018-12-08 19:49:32 UTC

that's the nature of commentary on Scripture, it's all someone's interpretation

2018-12-08 19:49:46 UTC

it's like that for any big set of literature

2018-12-08 19:49:47 UTC

tbh it would be weird of someone in his profession not to

2018-12-08 19:49:56 UTC

most conservative religous types are pro evolution now anyway

2018-12-08 19:50:12 UTC

I would consider myself christian

2018-12-08 19:50:13 UTC

to them that is the how and not the why

2018-12-08 19:50:18 UTC

and believe in evolution

2018-12-08 19:50:23 UTC

its not really something you can be "pro" .. you either understand it or dont 😛

2018-12-08 19:50:50 UTC

Peterson is interesting in the sense that his advocacy for religious thinking is based on Evolution, he is a Darwinist in that sense

2018-12-08 19:51:13 UTC

that idea has been really catching on, I've seen Bret Weinstein talk in those terms with Dawkins

2018-12-08 19:51:23 UTC

i really think that as a humanity we need to go past religion, i feel like we at that point already, when bad shit starts to prevail over benefits

2018-12-08 19:51:48 UTC

hahaha

2018-12-08 19:52:13 UTC

Sadly though I it is probably not possible. In the absence of traditional religion people will turn to something else to worship

2018-12-08 19:52:44 UTC

they already did, they treat ideologies as a religion

2018-12-08 19:52:57 UTC

yeah there are definitely a lot of things you cant question these days

2018-12-08 19:53:07 UTC

Social Justice if you really think about it is really a replacement for religion, activism is prayer

2018-12-08 19:53:20 UTC

but the new wave conservative religous thought is that science are the rules of god. That they are inseperable from each other in that the universe follows the rules set forward to it by their idea of a creator.

2018-12-08 19:53:30 UTC

like why are little tiny blondes on TV going punch for punch with massive guys

2018-12-08 19:53:37 UTC

and then winning

2018-12-08 19:53:50 UTC

well physics follows a set of laws

2018-12-08 19:53:57 UTC

that are unbreakable

2018-12-08 19:54:34 UTC

if we have this instinct within us that we want religion, we should probably guide it towards a positive end, it probably evolved for a reason, shouldn't just suppress it

2018-12-08 19:54:38 UTC

like.. even jackie chan fought bigger dudes and had to either get lucky using the environment or get smart ... or sometimes he'd just run

2018-12-08 19:55:24 UTC

I fully agree with this vid about jordan

2018-12-08 19:55:27 UTC
2018-12-08 19:55:49 UTC

@zutt gist?

2018-12-08 19:56:29 UTC

Basically his intelectual interpretation denies the blind faith on which religion is built

2018-12-08 19:56:57 UTC

Similarly to what anglicans in britain did

2018-12-08 19:57:15 UTC

Sometimes i wonder how much of free will we really posses. We are complex organisms, with billions and billions of microbiome and bacteria and hormones always clashing and dying and recreating again. How much that shit is affecting us every second and how clearly we can think?) Probably the more stable your bio vessel the more clearly you can think

2018-12-08 19:57:55 UTC

Even to believe in what Jordan is saying, to believe that there is such a thing as God and it's worth setting your life straight to achieve that ideal and the societal consequences of that.. you have to take a leap of faith. @zutt

2018-12-08 19:58:15 UTC

Religion is not entirely a bad thing. It can provide a moral guide and drive to become and seek something greater. This is provided of course religion is tempered by reason

2018-12-08 19:58:30 UTC

you have to give yourself in to it, actually believe and follow the laws you've set for yourself when times are rough.
