You know what I think is a sign of a broken culture?

2018-12-29 20:16:10 UTC

holding on for dear life to government-run rail networks

2018-12-29 20:16:31 UTC

no matter how many obvious practical reasons why these are not a good investment

2018-12-29 20:16:47 UTC

the kinds of people who hold on to wishful thinking about the technology are the worst

2018-12-29 20:17:05 UTC

I love trains, I love riding them, I think they're really cool, and they're great for freight.

2018-12-29 20:17:29 UTC

But nobody wants to pay what they cost for passenger carriage, nor should they.

2018-12-29 20:17:46 UTC

if you spend the same amount of money adding a motorcoach-only motorway or some similar thing

2018-12-29 20:17:52 UTC

you *still* save money the first year, second year, etc.

2018-12-29 20:18:53 UTC

U know what one funny similarity between Canada and Belarus? When people travel to botch countries, they surprised how good it looks, and how clean it is. And when u tell locals about that, they like `yeah, yeah, u should live here a couple of years and then come back to me`

2018-12-29 20:19:26 UTC

heheh

2018-12-29 20:19:44 UTC

what do you think they're getting at there?

2018-12-29 20:19:53 UTC

that people will get used to it?

2018-12-29 20:21:28 UTC

sounds like they wanna tell u to not judge a book by its cover. like the country is great and all, but it has tons of underling problems, few of which u can't even discuss, cause u'll get in trouble

2018-12-29 20:21:56 UTC

heheh

2018-12-29 20:22:02 UTC

well, those people are also kinda the problem

2018-12-29 20:22:25 UTC

it is currently possible to discuss these things

2018-12-29 20:22:35 UTC

but if they continue not to, it will soon be impossible

2018-12-29 20:23:11 UTC

I have a legitimate fear that in five to ten years, shit I've already said online could be considered some sort of twisted human rights offense.

2018-12-29 20:23:23 UTC

and that I could be retroactively punished for it

2018-12-29 20:23:29 UTC

true, in Belarus u could endup in jail, but still :]

2018-12-29 20:23:38 UTC

Belarus is a different matter

2018-12-29 20:23:42 UTC

different types of problems

2018-12-29 20:23:50 UTC

i did my 60 days in prison back in 2011 lol

2018-12-29 20:23:55 UTC

but well... even in Belarus you can *sort of* talk about *some* things.

2018-12-29 20:23:58 UTC

but yes

2018-12-29 20:24:03 UTC

you must leave Belarus and never come back

2018-12-29 20:24:14 UTC

if you want to be honest about what you don't like about it.

2018-12-29 20:24:37 UTC

that's not yet true in Canada

2018-12-29 20:24:49 UTC

but I am concerned that it will become that way the more people expect it to be

2018-12-29 20:25:05 UTC

maybe JBP will be able to save Canada

2018-12-29 20:25:58 UTC

yeah, maybe some actual force will be created behind all of that intellectual renascence

2018-12-29 20:26:58 UTC

meh

2018-12-29 20:27:18 UTC

the modern west is the best place in all of history and geography to be a man

2018-12-29 20:27:29 UTC

BUUUT

2018-12-29 20:27:40 UTC

some things which make that true are eroding

2018-12-29 20:27:44 UTC

which is why it needs work

2018-12-29 20:28:02 UTC

Windows is the best operating system for playing modern AAA PC games.

2018-12-29 20:28:14 UTC

2018-12-29 20:28:41 UTC
