my buddy tried to hire me over to his employer in Romania

because they are desperate for self-starting people

but it is so bureaucratic, they don't realize (or perhaps don't sufficiently care) that they are sabotaging any effort they make to hire fresh people, when they apply their bureaucratic standards to those people.

in my home country, as i mentioned, Belarus, there are plenty, actually, but its very hard to do business there. I've tried and moved out, cause its fucking devastating.

the funny thing is

there is money, at least in *some* of the institutions

they were offering me.... a lot of money

but they *still* couldn't overcome the bureaucracy.

yeah, and corruption. it was easier for me to learn spanish, english, travel bunch of countries and do it here, than back home lol

You know what I think is a sign of a broken culture?

holding on for dear life to government-run rail networks

no matter how many obvious practical reasons why these are not a good investment

the kinds of people who hold on to wishful thinking about the technology are the worst

I love trains, I love riding them, I think they're really cool, and they're great for freight.

But nobody wants to pay what they cost for passenger carriage, nor should they.

if you spend the same amount of money adding a motorcoach-only motorway or some similar thing

you *still* save money the first year, second year, etc.

U know what one funny similarity between Canada and Belarus? When people travel to botch countries, they surprised how good it looks, and how clean it is. And when u tell locals about that, they like `yeah, yeah, u should live here a couple of years and then come back to me`

sounds like they wanna tell u to not judge a book by its cover. like the country is great and all, but it has tons of underling problems, few of which u can't even discuss, cause u'll get in trouble

but if they continue not to, it will soon be impossible

you must leave Belarus and never come back

if you want to be honest about what you don't like about it.

that's not yet true in Canada

but I am concerned that it will become that way the more people expect it to be
