people buy consoles because the companies can afford to sell them for cheaper than they should as they can offset the cost by selling licenses to game devs. Which makes them slightly cheaper than a PC of similar quality with brand new hardware.

desktops cannot get "old" unless you don't update parts. your 970 will probably stop being able to play new games soonish, looks to be about as old as my laptop was when it started to be unable to really play games.
