They aren't, and they interact more than we presume

2019-01-26 18:50:50 UTC

I don’t believe your mind is separate from your body

2019-01-26 18:50:55 UTC

I would get into arguments with right-leaning people who grant that intelligence/IQ is heritable yet still cling to mind-body dualism.

2019-01-26 18:51:00 UTC

I don't believe in free will and ascribe to a sort of bio-deterministic materialism which pisses off a lot of people lol

2019-01-26 18:51:04 UTC

A gun in a gun free zone? Say it isn't so!!!

2019-01-26 18:51:09 UTC

in that case you're dying a lot

2019-01-26 18:51:09 UTC

The mind is a concept that derivates from the brain

2019-01-26 18:51:22 UTC

since your cells are dying and being made a new

2019-01-26 18:51:26 UTC

Well I do believe in free will in a certain degree

2019-01-26 18:51:27 UTC

at some point you have new brain

2019-01-26 18:51:33 UTC

as such the old you is dead

2019-01-26 18:51:37 UTC

you're a copy of yourself

2019-01-26 18:51:38 UTC

@devpav yeah that frustrates me

2019-01-26 18:51:40 UTC

I don't believe in free will at all.

2019-01-26 18:51:52 UTC

i don't think either side is right 😛

2019-01-26 18:52:03 UTC

they'll adopt biodeterminism only when it confirms their existing biases

2019-01-26 18:52:08 UTC

there's no ghost but consciousness information etc.. i think it is separate

2019-01-26 18:52:10 UTC

I think we just don’t know for certain

2019-01-26 18:52:16 UTC

and body is just a container for it

2019-01-26 18:52:28 UTC

If it was separate we could measure it

2019-01-26 18:52:28 UTC

But I do thing we should have personal responsibility

2019-01-26 18:52:31 UTC

I kinda notice that with the right on a lot of things actually, though the left no doubt does it any less so

2019-01-26 18:52:40 UTC

that's why i'll freeze my brain in hopes i'll get uploaded to computer at some point 😄

2019-01-26 18:52:40 UTC

We can't there is not proof of the inmaterial

2019-01-26 18:52:51 UTC

there is a measurement

2019-01-26 18:52:52 UTC

And if you don’t have free will then how do you have responsibility

2019-01-26 18:52:54 UTC

I believe in free will as a local interpretation, and should be respected, because we can't know the greater scheme

2019-01-26 18:53:02 UTC

you're dead you don't work, you don't create any more information

2019-01-26 18:53:05 UTC

@Montgomereeeee you don't and that's why the idea is dangerous

2019-01-26 18:53:08 UTC

you're just gone

2019-01-26 18:53:09 UTC

I do believe free will is a thing

2019-01-26 18:53:17 UTC

But is biased due to our genes

2019-01-26 18:53:26 UTC

And culture

2019-01-26 18:53:26 UTC

there you go a measuring method 😛

2019-01-26 18:53:28 UTC

conservatively minded people operate on the idea that all information that is useless or harmful is invalid

2019-01-26 18:53:38 UTC

we got some free will prolly ;p

2019-01-26 18:53:44 UTC

The information is encoded by the neural network not the individual neuron. Physically encoding the information requires an ensemble of neurons.

2019-01-26 18:53:52 UTC

@ThreeOfOne I do think we have free will but we all have right to our views

2019-01-26 18:53:57 UTC

the reality of free will is useless because it abdicates people of responsibility and therefore invalid

2019-01-26 18:54:01 UTC

Yep aka the brain itself is the mind

2019-01-26 18:54:05 UTC

that's not what I believe, but it's what conservatives think
