Still, that puts the whole "holy war" into question, when christian crusaders sack a christian city

2019-01-29 01:09:05 UTC

they werent holy tho

2019-01-29 01:09:09 UTC

They were an excuse to invade

2019-01-29 01:09:19 UTC

Catholic crusader sacked an orthodox city

2019-01-29 01:09:32 UTC

I'd say both. Since they were sanctioned by the pope, they were holy in essence

2019-01-29 01:09:39 UTC

But economic in practice

2019-01-29 01:09:59 UTC

It was viewed as retaliation for byzantium massacring roman catholics in 1182

2019-01-29 01:10:01 UTC

i wonder is the crusaders got PTSD after raping muslim women

2019-01-29 01:10:15 UTC

i don't thing PTSD was a thing back then.

2019-01-29 01:10:31 UTC

they didn't invent PTSD until the first world war

2019-01-29 01:10:35 UTC

@momoneymoproblems I bet the Jihads were perfectly reasonable and justifiable to the muslims as well.

2019-01-29 01:10:46 UTC

And venice basically financed that crusade

2019-01-29 01:10:49 UTC

so?

2019-01-29 01:10:52 UTC

Didnt the first crusade get as far as the Balkans and raid everyone?

2019-01-29 01:10:58 UTC

does that mean the crusaders aren't allowed to respond

2019-01-29 01:11:04 UTC

Of course not

2019-01-29 01:11:06 UTC

Didnt every crusade was a glorified raid?

2019-01-29 01:11:09 UTC

just bend over and get fucked by invasions?

2019-01-29 01:11:16 UTC

modern thinking is that PTSD is largely due to people being without some sort of peer group after the event

2019-01-29 01:11:25 UTC

like soldiers returning home and leaving their units.

2019-01-29 01:11:33 UTC

wait

2019-01-29 01:11:37 UTC

Oh yeah yeah

2019-01-29 01:11:38 UTC

Hmm im pretty sure is due to traumatic memories tho

2019-01-29 01:11:38 UTC

we're talking about PTSD or STD?

2019-01-29 01:11:41 UTC

@Atkins I can see that

2019-01-29 01:11:42 UTC

the roman empire more or less defined historical christian borders

2019-01-29 01:12:15 UTC

you experience shit that only other soldiers in your unit can relate to you with, trying to relate those experiences to anyone else is just alienating

2019-01-29 01:12:33 UTC

PTSD was around in medieval times

2019-01-29 01:12:34 UTC

hmmm maybe

2019-01-29 01:12:36 UTC

sound interesting

2019-01-29 01:12:37 UTC

keeping in mind that soldiers didn't return to normal lives after war

2019-01-29 01:12:45 UTC

i might be able to find the video, skallagrim did one on it iirc

2019-01-29 01:12:46 UTC

and stayed with their brothers in arms.

2019-01-29 01:12:55 UTC

but i do believe it existed from the moment humans could reason

2019-01-29 01:13:23 UTC

Soldiers had it way better during the Roman empire. Do your tour, get paid, get a plot of land and political rights.

2019-01-29 01:13:24 UTC

i don't think many soldiers had PTSD, compared to raided villages survivors.

2019-01-29 01:13:47 UTC

that also its true tho

2019-01-29 01:14:11 UTC

@Samer I kinda wonder about that

2019-01-29 01:14:12 UTC

since soldiers in ancient times wouldn't have the experience of leaving their unit a few months after a traumatic event (or at least not as often), PTSD probably wasn't as prevalent. they'd be on campaign for years at a stretch.

2019-01-29 01:14:19 UTC

Maybe also slaves?
