hence scorched earth and salted earth retreat methods
"In enemy land always advance"
And its all enemy land
Napoleon was a vastly superior tactician to all his enemies, he could defeat them if his army was alive
until his army starved in the russian winter he was still favoured
Never underestimate russian winters though
logistics > strategy > tactics
I think the only ones to actually manage to conqure Russia was the Mongols
Russians are no big deal
It's not like napoleon was gonna stroll into russia then decide half way to walk all the way back to Paris
Fimbulwinterr
its the problem
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VgCddIvNuw I think I heard Tim's washer spinning down in the background near the start of the video
he might as well have conquered Moscu at that point
Didnt the russians just abandon moskau? Even set fire to it?
Or was that WW2?
Why would they?
never abandoned it in ww2
napoleonic wars
Nazis advanced hugely into russia
they were less than a day til Moscow
Oh the NAzis were in the suburbs of Moscow
and then the winter fucked their ass
Numbers can overcome any foe
The winter is indeed the best weapon of Russia
they were right outside moscow, and got stuck at leningrad when they tried to deviate toward the oil rich middle east @Strufa
the winter was bad but also the fixation on encircling and killing enemy soldiers
Because the finns didn't want to help the nazis take leningrad
Too bad it doesnt matter in this day and age
they had their seperate wars
The nazi did screw up a lot during WW2 right?
Thank fuck they did
But every "screw up" was a strength in another area
well most were
not just the winter, the siege of stalingrad had hilter basically waste his best troops in a pointless battle over a destroyed city @momoneymoproblems with how long it took and what it cost it destroyed them
all of his elite troops never left that city
I mean i heard that if instead of killing jews they putted then into forced labor they could have won the war
Yeah stalingrad was also a problem because of how many pure casualties
but the nazis controlled 95% of stalingrad at one point
