Freedom does not mean I club someone over the head.
@EndangeredProdigy its been banned in the US for a long time
We can look at tiny titty porn, but if we're accused of a sexual crime it's legally permissible as evidence
thats why truecrypt was shut down only for development to continue in switzerland
Two people not clubbing each other over the head but engaging of free will is a state of more freedom than one taking the liberty to coerce another.
@Redneo lol does it deem a response though. I guess one can actually argue that Karl Marx is in fact the first AnCap.
it's not fully banned in the US, it's requested that there are backdoors
but Australia took it a step further
EXTRME TECH!
If in doubt, always quote Friedman.
@EndangeredProdigy well if there are backdoors its not secure now, is it?
no, but not all tech has a backdoor
i guess
some devs refuse to do that
Actually, what's banned (IIRC) is not being able to give up your keys if there's a warrant for them
how much are we willing to give up in privacy in order to be secure?
im in the side of "Not much"
"to be secure"
Wait.
I don't think that's true.
@EndangeredProdigy yeah so did the developers of truecrypt giving them no choice but to shut down.
There was a recent court case in which it was determined that one cannot be coerced to give access to one's phone.
its also not possible to put a backdoor into secure encryption to begin with
It is actually part of your Miranda Rights.
i mean i could agree on the cameras on the street as long as the no sex in public law is retired
You can't ban encryption and have it enforceable, all links that use https have encryption and that's senseless
It is the law against self-incrimination, falling under the 5th Amendment.
lol
Are you referring to some of the encryption bans of the US?
Those concerned the export of algorithms.
In Australia, until recently, warrants wouldn't cover keys unless a judge specifies it covers a key and most judges aren't that tech savvy
Many countries have such laws on the books.
Australia has infinite implied rights
Imagine going to the police station to report a crime that you done, and you run in screaming "I PLEAD THE 5TH"
also a lot of underworld programers will create new encryption system
We're technically more free than America is
i think a true 100% no encryption policy its impossible to implement
Huh?
