I'm still wondering what the goal of the train meme is.

2019-01-31 06:25:33 UTC

That's between you two

2019-01-31 06:25:43 UTC

It's a black and white fallacy however

2019-01-31 06:25:57 UTC

There is always another option

2019-01-31 06:26:35 UTC

If I turned the train to kill one I commit murder

2019-01-31 06:26:45 UTC

If I left the train to kill 5 I am implicit

2019-01-31 06:27:07 UTC

It's bullshit to convince you that evil is necessary somehow

2019-01-31 06:27:14 UTC

Evil is retarded

2019-01-31 06:27:26 UTC

But I'm not getting through to two nihilists

2019-01-31 06:27:39 UTC

the train thing is not a fallacy it's an analogy for when there is a choice to make that leads only to bad outcomes and your ability to rationalize evil as the "lesser evil", which means that morality is relative to the situation and not bound to pure logic

2019-01-31 06:27:45 UTC

I'm not sure I am a nihilist.

2019-01-31 06:28:02 UTC

Why can't you stop the train

2019-01-31 06:28:06 UTC

disproving the idea of real evil and real good

2019-01-31 06:28:07 UTC

What's the bad outcome? What if my goal is to get to work on time?

2019-01-31 06:28:11 UTC

Why can't you bring the people off the tracks

2019-01-31 06:28:18 UTC

Can i make the train hit both people?

2019-01-31 06:28:20 UTC

If i still make it on time, what does 6 ppl dying matter to that goal?

2019-01-31 06:28:57 UTC

that's bargaining, and that doesn't solve anything. don't you understand the point of an allegory ?

2019-01-31 06:29:01 UTC

So, again, what's the goal?

2019-01-31 06:29:22 UTC

If one is that fucking late that they can only move a train to one end before there is time to save anyone then you should move it to where there are less casualties

2019-01-31 06:29:25 UTC

But wait

2019-01-31 06:29:33 UTC

What if the five people were pedophiles

2019-01-31 06:29:34 UTC

life isn't all sweet, sometimes you have to make choice (and not acting is still a choice) that lead only to bad outcomes

2019-01-31 06:30:56 UTC

I just hate nihilistic philosophers because they ignore ancient logical philosophy and embrace modern nihilistic ones

2019-01-31 06:31:01 UTC

Like Sartre

2019-01-31 06:31:03 UTC

the train is heading torwards five people, you are too slow to run save them, you can either switch the lever and have only one person die that wouldn't have otherwise, or don't act because you refuse to kill that person but your refusal to act kills the five

2019-01-31 06:31:06 UTC

I fucking hate Sartre

2019-01-31 06:31:43 UTC

If I didn't know who they were?

2019-01-31 06:31:51 UTC

I'd send it to the one person

2019-01-31 06:32:01 UTC

Then I'd find out who the other five are that I saved

2019-01-31 06:32:11 UTC

If they were evil people I'd kill them

2019-01-31 06:32:17 UTC

And call it a day

2019-01-31 06:32:23 UTC

you don't understand the point of thought experiment do you, it's not about adding variables

2019-01-31 06:32:33 UTC

No. I do

2019-01-31 06:32:41 UTC

I'm thinking further is all

2019-01-31 06:32:55 UTC

Your point is to justify that there is no true good

2019-01-31 06:33:00 UTC

That is a fucking fallacy

2019-01-31 06:33:06 UTC

You're stupid

2019-01-31 06:33:11 UTC

<:NPC:500042527231967262>

2019-01-31 06:33:22 UTC

And with that

2019-01-31 06:33:29 UTC

I will return later
