Disrupt the flow of normal life and you get mass panic which makes the original attack that much more damaging

2019-01-31 20:25:58 UTC

Dumb and smart are useless when describing terrorists

2019-01-31 20:26:42 UTC

The strategy they use determines effectiveness rather than their intent

2019-01-31 20:27:18 UTC

With lone wolves its nearly impossible to execute a large scale attack like the ones your describing because it requires coordination

2019-01-31 20:27:41 UTC

Only explosives aren't very effective, it causes a lot of panic and shock but usually you'd have to stand right next to them to die

2019-01-31 20:27:47 UTC

Cars are horrific

2019-01-31 20:27:58 UTC

Everyone owns one or has access to one

2019-01-31 20:28:07 UTC

Unless you add, chemical dispersion packets to a mortar type situation

2019-01-31 20:29:04 UTC

Thats the maximum about of damage they can inflict is using cars

2019-01-31 20:29:58 UTC

Everything else carries large amounts of risk that the attack will be stopped before it occurs

2019-01-31 20:30:12 UTC

I think a chemical attack or pathogen release in the week before black friday would cause a lot of economic damage. Just have to make it look like theres more coming. Major economic blow there

2019-01-31 20:30:32 UTC

Sounds like someone played Tom Clancy's Division

2019-01-31 20:31:31 UTC

Thats actually based out of a wargame played out in Kansas back in the 90s. It was a smallpox outbreak to see how local and federal agencies would work. Turns out they didnt.

2019-01-31 20:31:40 UTC

they even made fake news reports for that

2019-01-31 20:32:22 UTC

actually i was wrong it was 3 months before 9/11

2019-01-31 20:32:37 UTC

so june of 2001

2019-01-31 20:32:50 UTC

you can actually watch the local news report they taped. and yes june 22-23

2019-01-31 20:33:42 UTC

if youve got a link handy put it in fake news

2019-01-31 20:34:51 UTC

But again this is a very complicated process to manufacture the virus and that doesnt even deal with the problem of keeping it alive or dispersing it in a populated area

2019-01-31 20:35:01 UTC

Meh chemical would work

2019-01-31 20:35:29 UTC

That means a lot of lead time, a lot of purchases and a hell of a delay between starting the process committing the attack

2019-01-31 20:35:36 UTC

A whole lot of windup, but a much worse punch

2019-01-31 20:35:50 UTC

Chemicals that harm are easy to make

2019-01-31 20:35:57 UTC

and can be store bought,

2019-01-31 20:36:45 UTC

mustard gas from cleaning agents, phosgene from refrigerant, chlorine gas from pressurized containers. Isnt too hard.

2019-01-31 20:37:48 UTC

No, but what is hard is not killing oneself with it

2019-01-31 20:38:06 UTC

The main point isnt casualties but the fear of casualties. Fear is the most potent weapon a terrorist can use

2019-01-31 20:38:52 UTC

Right and thats where the schools of thought diverge

2019-01-31 20:41:15 UTC

Pewdiepie is sponsored by Nutaku again

2019-01-31 20:41:17 UTC

Fear of a worse punch vs fear of a bunch of punches

2019-01-31 20:41:52 UTC

Super terrorism executed by organized cells compared vs lone wolves

2019-01-31 20:41:55 UTC

I think a general rule today with media cycles the way they are. The fear of multiple punches does way better than one big hit.

2019-01-31 20:42:22 UTC

Cause one big hit will cause fear at some locations. Hit a bunch of smaller targets, no one feels safe

2019-01-31 20:43:08 UTC

Yea, that explains part of the reason for the move toward lone wolf attacks

2019-01-31 20:44:07 UTC

Thats why if you hit mid sized towns shopping venues (outlet malls, bus depots, smaller regional airports) everyone is now a target. That can cause a lot more economic damage than one big hit in say New York or LA. Hit small town USA and the fear goes everywhere

2019-01-31 20:45:31 UTC

Also less security too, higher chance of success

2019-01-31 20:45:41 UTC

Right, that was the idea behind the wargame

2019-01-31 20:46:12 UTC

Also that wargame was a shit show

2019-01-31 20:46:23 UTC

A lot of agencies failed it

2019-01-31 20:46:31 UTC

As is often the case
