In my year 11 and 12 grade I lived in snowy mountains in AUstralia , it was -5 to -15c EACH DAY of winter
had to learn hvac repair because my furnace board died in the middle of a polar vortex... but hey, I can now repair and replace furnaces

Im guessing USA houses are built just as BAD and just as CHEAP as aussie homes, no proper insultation against hot/cold and not designed for cold temp places
