I'd say the gov't because just like your employer who deducts money from your paycheck it is not the employer taking your money but the gov't to which your employer hands over a portion of your earnings. Is that not correct?

Just got done cooking a full course meal. I am super happy and celebrating my accomplishment. I usually screw up on one part of the meal, but I actually succeeding in getting everything right!

@Paradox The gov't enlists the business owner at the gov'ts agent to collect the tax on the candy bar. You're right if I don't buy the candy bar the gov't can't force me to pay the tax. Just like if I refuse to work the gov't can't force me to pay payroll taxes. I'm not sure what your point is?

I honestly mostly cooking so I can learn and get the handle on cooking. Want to become a better cook, so I can fix anything I need to fix for myself and others.

My point is that your claim is incorrect. The government isn't forcing you to pay the tax on the candybar, the store is requiring you to. Without paying the tax they won't let you buy the candy bar. So, your claim that taxes are the government taking your property by force, is incorrect.
