@Battle The Tea party wasn't really "hard-right." They were all about fiscal responsibility to stop the Republicans from going down the "tax and spend" path they were on.

As long as they're isolated from the results of their policy.

@CasualSailor Tea Parties were not partisan to any side, it was entirely focused on tax reform tbh. After the first two years, a majority of tea parties dissolved because they achieved a win then went back to their prior activities. Basically Republicans to a degree and right wing people stayed.

@TruceAU Yeah, the Tea Party that came following Obama's election in 2008 was in response to the Democrat Congress raising spending by about 38%. Did you know for the next 8 year they never had a real budget because the regular budget process would have forced them to address that increase in spending? Instead they funded the gov't with continuing resolutions to avoid existing budget laws which would require them to cut spending. They are still dealing with that today which is why they can't seem to get back to "regular order" on the budget.
