I wont disagree with that, but you need a third word
A third word for what.
'Tranny'
in psychology the conditions are usually named in the way it has an effect on the sufferer, BDD for example "sufferer feels like their body is the wrong shape", for example in the subtype of muscle dysmorphia the sufferer feels that their muscles are too small so they exercise 24/7
and destroying an existing word by misusing it hurts it
i would love a third word. but, that's not up to us. lol
@Tea you either get used to it, or you switch fields. tbf i'm dead inside already so i compartmentalize very well. did you know therapists have to also see therapists?
:0
also, this kinda stuff is why dyphorias and dysmorphias may get removed from DMS 6
my whole problem is that BDD describes a condition that should be named body dysphoria disorder, or a new third 'dys' word, and they kept using dysmorphia in a way that was confusing as fuck to me from the definition they'd inferred from the disorder
sperged the fuck out, I'm sorry
Wtf I don’t wanna be a therapist anymore
dysphoria is legit
but its not an adequate descriptor of the condition
@Nip Crippler Fair enough man, hats off to you man.
it is convoluted. but that's also why you need at the minimum a masters to really even get your toes into the water.
here in washington you can't even get certified to practice without a masters.
I wanna go for a PhD
doctorate in order to open a private practice.
Morning
sure, but using dysmorphia is doubly inadequate further on down the road (ie. right now) because the word dysmorphia has lost definition standalone from the condition
Morning gay boy
I dunno
like BDD covers a whole range of shit that mostly involves sizes/shapes etc. of the body
Hey whisk
it hasnt lost its definition at all
Like that's exactly what I thought.
and it's not restricted to the physical form
"BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder) is a DSM-5, (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition), diagnosis involving distress due to a perceived physical anomaly, such as a scar, the shape or size of a body part, or some other personal feature. While most individuals feel a degree of doubt or dissatisfaction with their appearance at times, (NHS, 2012) individuals with BDD will experience persistent and intrusive thoughts about the imagined flaw (ADAA, 2014). Other people will not be concerned with, or even notice the anomaly, but the individual with the perceived flaw will alter their interpersonal and professional interactions on the basis of the imagined flaw"
I thought it was just a category they put the condition in for a wide range of the mental and physical sides of it.
yeah I'm not saying BDD doesnt cover a lot of shit, I'm saying that the one specific thing dysmorphia had in its etymology has been blurred and shifted closer to dysphoria
that's because they're so difficult to seperate
which is why definitions are like 3 pages long for diagnostics
Mays got moves.
Don't hate
not by original definition they werent, torch put it best
'-morph' = 'shape/physical'
'-phoria' = 'emotional/mental'
