the ablator actually slows you down gradually on the reentry on earth by the drag

and then you can use parachutes since you aren't going at the speed of the sound

first there are more resiliet but smaller parachutes to slow you a bit moe

they won't make you not go puff on the ground

but they can slow you down enough so you can use a big paracute

idk if they do that irl

but they prob do
