this is for civil debate.
it is not a shitpost
So....
Hey guys
I actually like the map @'Alex and have wondered before when or why history decided to orient modern maps the way they have, it could have equally have turned out the way depicted in the map you shared but some group of people decided on the current orientation. Just curious if there was actual reason behind it, an alterior intent or projection of status maybe (idk am reachin), or if it was just a coin toss moment in history.
It was likely because people had decided that north = up on early maps and just kept them like it
my theory is that people normally think that north = richer coutries and south = poorer countries
and therefore they put it that way
Wrong lol
The richest nations in the world were in the middle of the maps for some time
The roman empire, the egyptian empire, the greek city states, and the ottoman empire were all near the middle of the world from what was discovered. The regions up north were far more poor for some time, or at least didnt have a structured society
but the europeans made those new whole maps
the central europeans
Yes
There are northern europeans
Norwegians were much more poor
Russians are poor
Russia is rich
Not really
Pretty poor
With a few oligarchs
Well they have all their assets in other countries
Overall the government is incredibly rich but the citizens are poor
Not really
By that logic there are almost no poor countries
Most governments are rich
Well what do you mean by rich?
Well I suppose you guys meant living standards
I consider rich being enough wealth to have a large infuence on the entire world
That’s called powerful
I don’t deny it’s powerful
Is India rich then
They have influence
Not really
Hardly any, they're the ones being influenced
Huh
