That's what the habitation vs bishopric is
I don't see how that is
How not?
And historically this continued, for Peter appointed Ignatius of Antioch to be Bishop
The laying of hands continued apostolic succession
I don't consider history as legitimate argument when it comes to faith
Where did Peter apoint Ignatius
And how is that relevant
The bible is just a compilation of historical documents by the church, but anyways I'm giving historical context, not necessarily an argument purely from history
Was this before or after Jesus was resurrected
The office of Bishop was continued as mandated in the bible
After the death of Christ
My church has a Bishop
So?
Ignatius was not a witness
Not a valid bishop
How so
He did not go through the laying of hands
He does not hold succession
As I said earlier, I'm still learning
As in the bible ```In the Catholic Church, the laying on of hands is performed in the sacrament of Holy Orders and is the means by which one is included in one of the three major orders: bishop, priest, or deacon. ... The sacraments of ordination and confirmation are, however, reserved exclusively to a bishop```
They did this in the bible btw
Where is this in the Bible
It's in there with Matthias, I believe Timothy, and maybe James if I remember correctly
Can I get a specific example?
1 Timothy 4:14
1 Timothy 4:14
This was after going over the responsibilities of the Church authorities btw
Just says elders
Just read through 1 Timothy 3
As in Thessalonians the commanders of the church
Were elders
Do you believe that if you are not a member of Catholic church you cannot enter heaven?
My church has bishops and laying on of h of hands. So?
Every new bishop and deacon here is layed hands on by the eldest members of the church
Because Jesus gave the keys to the church
Peter
